Important: Im mentioning it here now- San Diego Comic Con is coming up this weekend. Since this will be my first comic con as blogger I will pay attention to the news feed and report on things that I and you will find interesting throughout the three days. So unless anything derails me expect during the days of July 24th- July 26th for bi-hourly updates.
So now that this weekend is done time to report on how many studio executives are either getting raises or getting fired.
Weekend box offices
1.)Dawn of the planet of the apes- $ 36 million\
2.) The Purge: Anarchy- $ 28.3 million
3.) Planes: Fire & Rescue- $ 18 million
4.) Sex Tape- $ 15 million
5.) Transformers age of extinction- $ 10 million
6.) Tammy- $ 7 million
7.) 22 jump street- $ 4 million
8.) How to train your dragon- $ 3.8 million
9.) Maleficent- $ 3.3 million
10.) Earth to Echo- $ 3.2 million
Wow I was actually pretty off when it came to box office this week. I love that Dawn of the planet of the apes is doing really well and seems to have good legs for itself- so that means WAR of the planet of the apes coming 2016. Purge Anarchy did lower than I or Hollywood expected but it still made # 2 and only cost about $9 million to make so Purge: whatever should be in our future. I am surprised Planes made it to number 3 let alone made it to the top ten at all and I am surprised at how bad sex tape did considering overall how well comedies have been doing this year and the last Cameron Diaz movie did really well. Transformers keeps dropping significantly but despite that it's still the highest grossing movie of the summer.
Overall while Purge did good, Planes and Sex tape under badly performed so expect heads to roll.
So that's this weekend's box office. Due to it being comic-con time I plan for tomorrow my box office prediction article and Wednesday to be my editorial (expect that to have something to do with the box office as well) so I can devote Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Comic con.
