Spoiler! (I don't really think I'm going to spoil anything really but I put it there for a disclaimer just in case.)
So after many delays I am here with a movie review. I owed the person who went with me to see Jersey boys and this is what they picked. Tammy is a movie that stars Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon as a granddaughter, grandmother duo on their way to Niagara falls after Tammy was fired and cheated on by her personality less husband.
The thing about reviewing a comedy is that it's actually somewhat hard as since a comedy is predicated more on jokes than actual story you can't really review what you liked about it unless you spoil all of the best jokes and ruin it for everybody. However, that's the problem with reviewing a good comedy, reviewing a bad comedy is hard for a different reason, mainly because when the movie is as boring as watching paint dry you really have nothing to say except 'yay' or 'nay.'
That's the main problem with Tammy, it's boring. I only chuckled three times in the theater, not even laughed just chuckled. Susan Sarandon and Melisa McCarthy are likeable in the roles and have good chemistry but they don't really have characters, their more along the lines of playing themselves. Nobody in this movie is bad either their just not that memorable, heck Dan Akroyd is in this movie and he only shows up for five minutes and most likely just for a paycheck.
This is also one of the most sloppily written movies I've seen in a long time, plot points in this movie are either rushed through or under developed. The pacing was also not very great, not bad but just not very great and when you have a movie whose premise has been done to death (ex: Guilt Trip) pace is important.
This is not the worst comedy I've seen this year or ever. It is not the stupidest comedy every ( Grown ups 2 still holds that title.) Nor is it the most boring comedy I've seen in a while (We're the Millers takes the cake on that) but it's still a bad movie and an unmemorable movie at that. If I had to be frank I would wait until DVD to see this movie if you want to see it that badly but it's more of the kind of movie that you put in the background while your working on something else.
Tammy gets a 3/10- Very boring and very unremarkable
