Weekend box office- Science and music

Sorry if this is coming late I kind of got a bit obsessed with fallout 3. Now this weekend the two big movies coming out are Guardians of the galaxy ( science fiction superhero movie) and Get on Up (James Brown biopic.) GOTG is expected to make $65 million dollars opening weekend while Get on Up is expected to make $22 million. Both movies are getting very good reviews so far. Here is my predictions-

Guardians of the galaxy
Opening weekend: $68-$80 million
Domestic box office: $150-$220 million
International box office: $ 170- $ 350 million
World wide box office: $ 320- $570

Get on up
Opening weekend: $ 28- $35 million
Domestic box office: $ 150- $170
International box office: $ 170- $200 million
World wide box office: $320- $ 370 million

Top ten box office
1.) Guardians of the galaxy
2.) Get on up
3.) Lucy
4.) Hercules
5.) Dawn of the planet of the apes
6.) The purge anarchy
7.) planes fire & rescue
8.) Transformers age of extinction
9.) Sex tape
10.) And so it goes

That's my weekend box office prediction and I am sorry if this is shorter than usual but I am writing this on the fly. Hopefully my editorial tomorrow is more thought-out, tomorrow... my favorite characters.

Weekend box office- The Rocket gets beat up by a girl.

Now back to normal. Lucy and Hercules came out this weekend in the middle of all the comic con news, so lets see how both movies and other movies this week already did.

  Weekend box office
1.) Lucy- $ 44 million
2.) Hercules- $ 29 million
3.) Dawn of the planet of the apes- $16 million
4.) The purge anarchy- $ 9.8 million
5.) Planes fire & rescue- $ 9.3 million
6.) Sex tape- $5.9 million
7.)Transformers age of extinction- $ 4.6 million
8.) And so it goes- $ 4.5
9.) Tammy- $ 3.4 million
10.) A man most wanted- $2.7

So the Rock got beat up by the pregnant Scarlet Johanssen- that's going to be the headline most people who report on box office's will report. I didn't review either movie because of Guardians of the galaxy and because of house renovations I wanted to save my money for that movie. Hopefully do to the success of Lucy, we might get a Black Widow movie? (Come on Marvel everyone's mad at you about Comic Con, so make them happy!)

Glad to see Dawn of the apes doing well along with Purge Anarchy both movies which I really liked (even though I gave on of them a not so glowing review.) I am surprised to see that Planes fire & Rescue hasn't really dropped all that much in the second week.

So that's the weekend box office- this Friday I'm going to be Hooked on a feeling!

Comic Con news~ Marvel

Comic con is finally over and now no more waiting for shit to happen. Marvel had the Ant-man and Avengers panel's come out. For Ant-man which was received overall very warmly announced the villain will be Darren Cross/ Yellow Jacket and Evangeline Lilly will play Hope Van Dyne: Hank Pym's daughter. This Ant-man news makes me very excited puts a lot more faith in the super troubled production of Ant-man. The Avengers had a Q & A panel and showed the trailer for the movie which is said to be very awesome.

Disappointingly no big movie announcements except for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 coming July 28th 2014. No word on Dr Strange but people are theorizing it's because they haven't booked an actor yet. So no Joaquin Phoenix for Dr Strange.

Overall disappointing comic con, we got a lot of cool shit but no movie or casting announcements from Marvel, DC or Fox and Sony (they didn't even have panels.)

Oh well next year I guess and next week Guardians of the galaxy!

Comic con news~ Guardians of the galaxy animated series.

A rumor festering around a few months back is a possible Guardians of the galaxy animated series. Well that turns out to be true as an animated series was announced today. Now I know Ultimate Spider-man and Avengers assembled while pretty looking aren't at all good (actually pretty bad) animated cartoons but Jeph Loeb is stepping down as head of animation and considering the sounds of the guardians of the galaxy film this could work and work out really well, anyway very excited!

Comic con news~ Holy Trinity

Hey this looks pretty good, I like Gal Gadots wonder women outfit and it is very cool for a modern update and is pretty close to the comics. I would have preferred the skirt but I like the outfit design overall. I also like the fact of how it is close the the infamous holy trinity photo and I hope they find a way to weave all three images into a poster! This is probably the most positive I've been on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and it gives me hope in all honesty.

Comic con news- The last of us movie

About last year a "The Last of us" movie was announced. The Last of Us was a critically acclaimed game from last year (That is phenominal and not just your typical run of the mill zombie game, you should play it.) It was so well received and made a shit ton of money that Hollywood decided to make a movie for. The Last of us is one of those games that is very cinematic and it's entire story is something you could rip straight from the game. It has a very smart and very dark story when you play it.

At comic con it was announced that Sony Studio entertainment and is moving full ahead with the project with Sam Raimi producing it (not directing.) Sam Raimi could do a really good job as a producer. Rumor has it that the main choice for the main female lead Ellie is Maisie Williams (Arya Stark from Game of thrones) who would be a good choice as well.

I will update more if and when the story develops.

Comic Con news- Spongebob Square pants 3-D movie

Growing up it wasn't Mickey Mouse who was my cartoon icon it was two characters- Courage the Cowardly Dog and SpongeBob Square pants. SpongeBob was an upbeat happy character like Mickey but the difference was he could mess up and not many people liked him but he still came out on Top always sure of himself. I didn't just see SpongeBob as a hero I saw him as a friend as a little kid. Now they are making a live-action 3-D movie with humans. Now I am pissed.

I wouldn't be pissed about the 3-D thing but I am pissed about the human thing. SpongeBob is like the Transformers where he doesn't need human characters to work- he's just fine. Heck SpongeBob the animated movie is a perfect SpongeBob movie where he grows and changes and goes through a character arc. Now I know how everyone who is a transformers fan feels.

Comic con news... sort of~ Expendables leak

While on twitter Bob Chipman "Moviebob" tweeted that the Expendables 3 film has been leaked online. This will be interesting to see if this effects the expendables in the box office in anyway. Although it might be since often times piracy has been the detriment to many tv shows and movies. For a recent example Legend of Korra due to the fact how much that show has been pirated now is being put online and for a movie example X-men Origins Wolverine, the entire movie was pirated online and it did slightly lower than expected. This is an example of how bad the internet can get sometimes.

Comic con news- Dr Strange

A popular theory going around is that the title role of Dr. Strange will be played by none other than British UK actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Khan, Julien Assange.) Sadly those rumors seems to be false as while at the panel for 'Penguins of Madagascar' Cumberbatch said:

“As far as I’m aware, even if that was the case, it couldn’t work out because I’m doing a little play called ‘Hamlet’ in London,” he said. “So I don’t think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It’s a shame if I miss out, but who knows?”

While this could be a cover for himself (A.K.A Paul Rudd when he denied being Ant-man) I am lead to believe this is false. While I wouldn't mind seeing Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange I have this theory/feeling that the whole Cumberbatch thing was a cover itself to hide who really is The Sorcerer Supreme, and I have a feeling if we don't find out during SDCC we might find out during the mysterious Guardians of the galaxy post credit scene (this is just a theory however as well.)

Comic con news- World of Warcraft logo revealed

The upcoming and sounding very cool world of warcraft movie is coming in two years but that hasn't stopped them from unleashing the official logo for the movie on to the comic con plateform:

http://screenrant.com/warcraft-movie-logo-comic-con-2014/

It looks cool but I am more excited to see what the plot of this movie is going to be. Hopefully we should be learning that very soon.

Comic Con news- Battle of the Five Armies

The new poster for the hobbit the battle of the five armies came out and here is link below because my computer hates me:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/new-hobbit-battle-five-armies-3906897

I have strange relationship with the Hobbit franchise. I never saw any of the original Lord of the rings movies because it came out when I was still in my toddlers to small child years when I was still afraid of going to watch movies in a dark theater. I loved the original Hobbit an unexpected journey, I liked Desolation of smaug until I rewatched it and saw it was a really terrible and boring film. So I don't know how I am going to feel about the battle of the five armies but at least the poster looks cool.

Comic Con news- Legend of Korra goes Viral

About a couple days ago many Avatar fans were worried that the popular Legend of Korra was to be cancelled (EX: Young Justice and Spectacular Spider and Wolverine and the X-men.) Yet today it was announced while the beloved tv show would not be on live tv anymore the show would now be online. More specifically on Nick.com and the Nick App.

The creator, Bryan Konietzko had these words to say:

“There is most definitely a Book 4. All the pre-production is done and Studio Mir is hard at work on the animation. This was a disappointing development for sure, but as long as you all are able to see the show in some capacity, I’m grateful.”

Comic-con news:Concept art

New Concept art for Avengers and Ant-man came out. I still can't post pictures on here without killing the system but here are links:

Ant-man:http://screenrant.com/ant-man-comic-con-poster/
Avengers: avengers-2-iron-man-scarlet-witch-posters-comic-con-2014

The Avengers one is ok but what I prefer is the Ant-man poster which looks amazing. The two ant mans facing off to the side while one of them in the suit shrinks and grows. The costume in the art looks amazing and I hope that the suit in the concept art looks exactly like the costume in the movie. I am way more excited for Ant-man now.

Summer of 14'- What happened?

Comic-con is tomorrow, the day that will be nothing but me sitting at my computer updating you guys on interesting comic-con news. So tonight I've decided to talk about an interesting topic- money.

The box office of Summer 2014 has been nothing but disappointing to say the least. Most of the summer movies have under performed, with few surprises, some have dropped significantly in only their second weekend and only one movie has broken the $100 million dollar mark opening weekend. Money makes the world go around and the same phrase applies to Hollywood too.

This would not have been an issue- twelve years ago. Before the era of the modern day blockbuster, which we are currently living in especially with all the superhero movies. It's an issue because now many blockbusters today (especially after Avengers) are expected to score high and stay that way for a long while. Also the fact that recently it was revealed tickets sales were down 24% then they were last year. This has Hollywood in full "the apocalypse is coming" mode and wondering what the hell is going on?

The common answer is TV and the rise of TV quality which I agree to some extent even though I don't really watch television anymore except for Game of Thrones. Yet I have my own theories and while TV is one of them their are other ones I have. This will mainly be a list because I feel like I can get my thoughts out better if I do a list. Ready? Here we go....

   1.) Over crowding
May and June of 2014 had to be two of the most crowded movie months I have ever seen in my life. May contained Amazing Spider-man 2, Neighbors, X-men Days of future past, Maleficent, A million ways to die in the west, and Godzilla coming in week after week of each. June had the fault in our stars, edge of tomorrow, 22 jump street, think like a man 2, and Transformers coming in week after week of each other.

And it really didn't slow down until maybe a week or two ago. With so many big tent-pole blockbuster movies, comedies and movies with it's own huge fan bases coming in all at once with no breaks, their all going to consume each other. Especially with so many of them going after the same demographics, their only going to bite a little profit out of each other and even more as the weeks go on.

Captain America. Hunger Games, Hobbit, the Lego movie and the Fast and Furious franchise all prove you don't have to confine big summer movies to the months of May to August. You can release a movie in April and it will make a profit, you can release a movie in freaking February and it will make a profit. Hollywood, if you want your movies individually to succeed you need space them out from each other. Move to September, move to October, move to March- just move somewhere so that you won't kill each other.

2.) Audience money

Now after that Rant- the economy is not that great. Most people do not have the money or the capacity to buy tickets to go see a new film every week. They might want to go see one movie but in some cases they don't have the money to see this movie and another movie they want to see coming out next week. So they have to choose.

3.) Audience and quality

This somewhat plays into the audience money thing but I do believe that audience, regular movie goers are getting a sense of taste and quality. Now sometimes that's not the case (i.e Transformers) but I feel that with the growing age of the internet letting people be able to access movie criticism and movie sites they start to understand what makes a good movie and a bad movie. Even those who don't movie are starting to figure out a good movie from a bad one. They are also deciding on what they would rather see. While audiences aren't their yet I do believe they are getting much smarter which is starting to effect the box office.

4.) Marketing
A lot movies that really should have passed the $100 million dollar mark or at least the 70- 90 million mark is because their marketing has been horrible, giving people the wrong impression about it causing it to be seen as either generic or bad so people won't see it. A good example could be Edge of Tomorrow a movie that was great, go critical acclaim but due to it's marketing making it look like a generic piece of shit no one turned up to see it. I dare you to go watch the Edge of Tomorrow trailers and not tell me that, the movie does not look like a generic boring Tom Cruise action flick. Marketing can make or break a movie if there is hardly any marketing thrown on it no one will know that movie exists and if the marketing is bad no one will turn up.
Also giving away too much plot points in a marketing campaign (Ex: Amazing Spider-man 2) people will say I've already seen the movie and backoff.

5.) Television
Now for the big one- I think the reason that TV has started to over take the movie population is for many different reasons. For one thing TV quality especially Cable TV( HBO and AMC shows like Game of Thrones, breaking bad, Boardwalk empire etc.) are becoming much better in quality and in some cases more interesting than some of the movies out. It also doesn't have a lot of the problems movies have these days, you don't really have to spend a shit ton of money to watch tv in the confines of your home, it's more approachable, marketing is typically good, they don't overcrowd each other you can easily record a movie or go on Demand or Netflix to watch a movie or TV show. It's just easier.

Now that's my two cents on the matter. Now tomorrow, the battle of Comic con awaits.

Weekend box office predictions

Comic con's coming so this and the editorial are all coming a day early. To a lot of people this is the week before Guardians of the galaxy but still two big movies are coming out that are polar opposites. One has a male lead the other has a female lead, one takes place in modern day the other back in greek times, the other is all about the brain while the other about the brawn. Lucy and Hercules come out this week and while from the trailers neither looks like particularly good movies both will perform overall decently. Lucy is expected to top Hercules with $30 million as opposed to Hercules which is predicted to make $ 21 million.

So do I think they will do?

Lucy
Weekend box office: $35-$ 44 million
Domestic Box office: $140-$160 million'
International box office: $ 190- 230 million
Worldwide box office: $ 330- $ 390 million

Hercules
Weekend box office: $ 20 - $29 million
Domestic box office: $ 110- $120 million
International box office: $ 150- $180 million
Worldwide box office: $ 260- $300 million

 Top 10
1.) Lucy
2.) Dawn of the planet of the apes
3.) Hercules
4.) Purge Anarchy
5.) Planes: Fire & Rescue
6.) Sex Tape
7.) Transformers
8.) Tammy
9.) 22 Jump Street
10.) Maleficent

It would be awesome if Dawn of the planet of the apes won box office for a third week in a row but that is not going to happen especially with how this summer has been going. Box office falls it doesn't rise- unless your Gravity. I expect Lucy to do better than Hercules because less trash as been talked about the movie, Scarlett Johanssen is getting a stronger fan base thanks to Under the skin and Black Widow (hopefully a black widow movie?) I might end up reviewing Hercules but I hope to review Lucy, so I will have to wait.

Tomorrow... box office (Don't worry next week I'll make a list, Box office is kind of an issue I want to get my opinion out on.)

Weekend box office

Important: Im mentioning it here now- San Diego Comic Con is coming up this weekend. Since this will be my first comic con as blogger I will pay attention to the news feed and report on things that I and you will find interesting throughout the three days. So unless anything derails me expect during the days of July 24th- July 26th for bi-hourly updates.

So now that this weekend is done time to report on how many studio executives are either getting raises or getting fired.

Weekend box offices
1.)Dawn of the planet of the apes- $ 36 million\
2.) The Purge: Anarchy- $ 28.3 million
3.) Planes: Fire & Rescue- $ 18 million
4.) Sex Tape- $ 15 million
5.) Transformers age of extinction- $ 10 million
6.) Tammy- $ 7 million
7.) 22 jump street- $ 4 million
8.) How to train your dragon- $ 3.8 million
9.) Maleficent- $ 3.3 million
10.) Earth to Echo- $ 3.2 million

Wow I was actually pretty off when it came to box office this week. I love that Dawn of the planet of the apes is doing really well and seems to have good legs for itself- so that means WAR of the planet of the apes coming 2016. Purge Anarchy did lower than I or Hollywood expected but it still made # 2 and only cost about $9 million to make so Purge: whatever should be in our future. I am surprised Planes made it to number 3 let alone made it to the top ten at all and I am surprised at how bad sex tape did considering overall how well comedies have been doing this year and the last Cameron Diaz movie did really well.  Transformers keeps dropping significantly but despite that it's still the highest grossing movie of the summer.

Overall while Purge did good, Planes and Sex tape under badly performed so expect heads to roll.

So that's this weekend's box office. Due to it being comic-con time I plan for tomorrow my box office prediction article and Wednesday to be my editorial (expect that to have something to do with the box office as well) so I can devote Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Comic con.

The Purge: Anarchy review

Spoilers!

Full disclosure I never saw the original "Purge" movie. It never interested me and I don't typically like home invasion movies for the simple fact that I actually want to sleep at night. That being said after watching Purge: Anarchy, from what I can tell you really do not have to have watched the first purge to know what's going on in the second one. They explain the whole "All crime is legal for 12 hours" thing very quickly and the rest of the film just goes which is good, so I won't sound completely lost when I do the review.

The Purge: Anarchy takes place in a dystopian future where all crime is legal for twelve hours, including murder. The film is about five people who in very different circumstances get trapped on the streets during the purge and must survive the night. Our characters are 'soon-to-be' separated couple Shane and Liz, single mother and her daughter Eve and Cali and last Sergeant Leo Barnes who is basically the punisher. I'm not even joking he is basically the Punisher he has a military background, his whole motivation is some guy killed his family and now he wants revenge, he has an entire arsenal of guns, and wears all black clothing. Heck throughout the whole movie I was basically calling him the Punisher or Frank Castle and their is a scene at the end that is a complete Punisher moment.

On that same note Frank Grillo is great in the role, he's an action hero (well anti-hero) who is badass in everyway without having to speak one-liners and yet he gives a good emotional performance especially at the end. If it weren't for the fact he was already cast as Crossbones I would be campaigning him to be the Punisher in a Marvel movie or Netflix series. In fact he's so good that he's really the only character you can give a damn about and is at all compelling. Don't get me wrong all these people are good actors it's just that their characters are very one-dimensional.

Carmen Ejogo is very good and likeable as Eve but her daughter Cali is so stupid and actually kind of annoying. For example in the film when she and Eve are hiding from a man who wants to rape them she yells at him not to come near them thus alerting their position. She also never shuts up and while Zoe Soul is a good actress she just came off annoying and a little stupid. Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez play Liz and Shane their characters along with their subplot could have been cut from the film and nothing would have been lost. Their good but they really add nothing to the film except for one of them to die ten minutes before the film ends.

On the same note as things that could have been cut from the film their is a subplot about using the purge as a rebellion against the founding fathers but for the most part it's just in the background until the finale fifteen minutes of the film and only shows up for about five minutes. I have feeling this is set up for the next film but it could have been cut completely or just hinted at. It was only their so that the characters could escape at the facility they were being kept it. I also got this weird, kind of uncomfortable Black Panther (not the superhero) analogy because all of the resistance people were black and their is a video with the leader that looks like a black panther video and stuff they would have said when they were at their high point in the 60's and 70's.

It also has one of the dumbest endings of the this year. I am in the camp that says if an ending is terrible it can ruin a film for someone because why watch a film when the end is near insulting. Why watch a film when the payoff is not worth it? Now that being said the ending to the Purge: Anarchy is not so dumb I give it four out of ten and certainly isn't the worst ending ever but it was still a little dumb.

On the bright side this film has some great practical action with no shaky cam needed. The whole concept of the purge is still very interesting and they do manage to sneak in great themes of gun violence, class differences and anger.

However what I found very interesting is while people who hated the last Purge or never saw the original actually liked it very well but people who did like the last Purge hated it. My parents watched the first Purge and really liked it- after they saw Purge Anarchy they said they hated Anarchy. That's kind of interesting and depending on how the box office goes it will be interesting to see where this franchise goes.

All in all I give Purge Anarchy a 6/10- It has the makings of a great Punisher film and has a great concept, I hope Frank Grillo and everyone in this film has a good career, but a lot of stuff could have been cut, I hated the ending and it's still kind of sloppily written. I overall liked it well enough myself and I am interested to see where this franchise goes.

And the oscar goes to...

When Dawn of the planet of the apes came out the universal thing critics said in their reviews (including myself) that Andy Serkis should be nominated for best actor for the role of  motion-capture creation Caesar. However not a lot of parties agree with those sentiments and this is where things get- tricky. The reason I'm talking about this now is because A.) My editorial days are on Thursday and B.) I wanted the buzz around this to die down a little.

While many see Andy Serkis's acting in Dawn as purely acting Serkis acting where as other namely people who work in animation and the visual effects department loudly proclaim that a lot of the facial and eye movements are touched up and improved by the people behind the characters- the special effects artist.

On the one hand I can see where the special effects artist and animators are coming from, without them Caesar & his companions would never have been "born" nor  without them would the actors be able to give them proper life because the technology would be there. Yet at the same time a quote on quote "real" actor (live-action and al) can't give the performance they could with out the directing giving them direction nor the screen writers script to give them the jumping off point about what to do. It's the same here while credit should be given to the director, writer and in this case special effects artist the finale conclusion, and the thing that gave Caesar life is Andy Serkis.

It basically the same as Matthew McConaughey's performance in "Dallas Buyers Club." While Jean-Marc Vallee gave him the direction and Craig Borten gave him the script to start yet it's still Matthew McConaughey acting and that didn't make him any less deserving of the Oscar didn't it. Alright, Alright, Alright (come on you know I had to put in McConaughey's catchphrase.)

I think the main problem is that special effects artist don't get the credit they deserve (which they really should be), they made us spectacular worlds that make us want to live there instead of here and  they have been the punching bags of Hollywood for way too long. That's why they went out on strike two years in a row Hollywood! Although that's another discussion for another time (probably Oscar season or if their is any word of a big special effects artist strike.)

Batman & Wolverine: Superhero Finest

Umm... I don't generally report on news mainly because a lot of the thing it's rumor when it breaks and I don't generally report on it if it's not that big or it doesn't touch my interest. This one is pretty big and it's about comics and movies...

Basically what happened is Fox the studio that owns X-men and Fantastic four just TRIED to buy not only DC comics movie rights but Warner Bros. one of the big movie studios for 80 billion dollars. Now I put an emphasis on TRIED because WB refused stating it wouldn't be good for the company but in this business when money talks it convinces and rumor has it Fox is going to try again. So if anything happens I'll be back to report.

This also raises some interesting questions. What happens to the X-men and Fantastic Four properties if Fox buys the competition? What's going on in WB? What would happen to Batman v Superman: Dawn of justice? Does it get canceled or does it just continue? This is an interesting story on many levels because this isn't a major studio buying a smaller studio or a well-known property, this a major movie studio attempting to buy another major studio. It looks like WB said no but who knows what might happen overall.

Well see you tomorrow or maybe later depending on what happens.

Weekend box office prediction

Ah the weeks go by and the days grow shorter and shorter- and now the horrible realization that summer is ending and school making a comeback hits me like a bullet train.  Man that makes me sad, on the bright side Guardians of the galaxy is coming in two weeks and comic con is next week. That makes me a bit happier.

In so this doesn't become a really sad rant on my part let's get on to the predictions to the upcoming box office. My bet is on Dawn of the planet of the apes to take 1st place second week in a row due to the overwhelming response to it and nothing really that exciting opening this weekend. Don't get me wrong their are actually three movies coming out this weekend but none of them are really that big enough to dethrone Dawn, maybe the Cameron Diaz movie Sex Tape but other than that not much else. So here are my predictions for Sex Tape, Purge: Anarchy and Planes: fire and rescue.

 Sex Tape
Weekend box office: $35-$40 million
Domestic box office: $ 90- $ 110 million
International box office: $ 130- $ 160 million
World wide box office: $ 220 - $270 million

Purge: Anarchy
Weekend box office: $ 37- $ 47 million
Domestic box office: $ 60- $ 80 million
International box office: $ 75- 95 million
World wide box office: $ 135- $ 175 million

Planes: fire and rescue
Weekend box office: $10- $ 15 million
Domestic box office: $ 20- $ 40 million
International box office: $ 40- $ 60 million
World wide box office: $ 60- $ 100 million

 Box office list
1.) Dawn of the planet of the apes
2.) Sex Tape
3.) Transformers age of extinction
4.)Purge: Anarchy
5.) Tammy
6.)22 Jump street
7.) How to train your train your dragon 2
8.)Earth to Echo
9.) Maleficent
10.) Deliver us from evil

I anticipate for sex tape to be #2, because of how the reception has been from audiences to the trailers and the fact Cameron Diaz comedies tend to due very well. Purge Anarchy is the kind of movie that I see doing well in it's first weekend then completely dropping off. Planes I don't even expect it to be in the top ten because I don't think many people know it exists plus most hated the first one and many people (including I) can't comprehend how it got a sequel. So that's my predictions, tomorrow for my editorial.... Andy Serkis.

Weekend Box office

Ah another week goes by and we come to this again. I find that whenever I talk about box office it's the article that gets the most hits. So thanks for liking this. Now this weekend the big movie that came out was Dawn of the planet of the apes. Now lets see how it and other movies did this week.

Weekend box office

1.) Dawn of the planet of the apes- $ 73 million
2.) Transformers age of extinction- $ 16.5 million
3.) Tammy- $12 million
4.) 22 jump street- $ 6.7 million
5.)  How to train your dragon 2- $ 5.8 million

6.) Earth to Echo- $ 5.5 million
7.)  Deliver us from evil- $ 4.7 million
8.) Maleficent- $ 4.1 million
9.) Begin again- $2 million
10.) Jersey boys- $2 million

Good job for Dawn of the planet of the apes, I loved that movie and glad it's doing well- so yeah we're getting a sequel Hail Caesar!  Transformers took a pretty big drop in it's third week about 55% drop, not as bad as the 74% drop last week but it's still the highest grossing movie of 2014 so far (about $752 million right now) now, so it look like we're getting a sequel. And while I did say this is the best one out of the four movies so far I am personally pretty sick of transformers and really don't want another one. Tammy and 22 jump street are both doing very well so it's a great year for comedy.

How to train your dragon 2 is doing relatively ok, it's now enough to warrant a sequel so sorry to all how to train your dragon 2 fans. I'm surprised how well Earth to Echo and Deliver us from evil are doing as I expected Earth to Echo to drop to # 10 and Deliver us from evil to be dropped out of the top ten all together. Although I am still worried about Dr. Strange as I hear Deliver us from evil was pretty bad and the same guy who directed that movie is directing Dr. Strange. Begin Again is in the top 10, don't really know much about the movie including whether it's good or bad all I know is that it stars the Hulk and Elizabeth Bennett. I am surprised at how Jersey boys is hanging in the box office, yet it seems people might be thinking twice about Clint Eastwood as this movie has gotten pretty poor reviews and it's budget is about $ 40 million and many people predict it won't cross the $ 50 million line so we might be able to say this will be one of Clint Eastwoods movie bombs.

Anyway that was this weeks box office. I have no idea what movie I might be review this weekend but most likely it would be Sex Tape as my mom would never let me see Purge: Anarchy.

Dawn of the Planets of the apes review

Spoilers! Also I will refer to the movie as Dawn as my fingers usually hurt after reviews and I will probably get arthritis after this.

Dawn is the sequel to Rise of the planet of the apes which is the reboot of the original, 1968 film. Many critics have compared this to Star Wars: The empire strikes back... and yeah... their pretty much right.

Dawn is a phenomenal film full of action, heart and a lot Professor X/ Magneto debates. Now go see the movie, it is awesome, go see it, don't waste any time, go see it Caesar is waiting for you!

Anyway, Dawn is one of the movies where the marketing shows you one thing but the movie is a completely different thing from what the marketing shows you. Now it's not a drive where it's almost two different genre's, so no one sue (look that up kids "Lady sue's movie Drive".) Yet in all honesty the movie we got is much  better than the one we guessed we would get from the trailers. What happens in this movie is ten years after the first movie humanity has basically fallen, the disease James Franco was trying to cure got worse and turned into what the humans called "The simian disease" and long story short chaos reigned, war started and humanity has been reduced to small colonies spread out across the world. Caesar has started his own functional city of apes and even has a family. Caesar and his tribe come across a group of humans trying to power a generator they have and to not ruin the spectacular movie for anyone war ensues.

First the good which there is a lot of. Andy Serkis after this performance deserves to be recognized by the academy, he doesn't even need to win best actor I would be fine to see him just nominated. The humanity and compassion mixed with the strength and leadership he brings to the table is stunning, no one else could have done what he did in the movie, not even close to the same level of acting he did. Every time the movie focused on the apes there was just pure warmth, fellowship and just utter humanity was so captivating. And the thing is the apes talk only about 20% of the time they are on screen, 80% of it is just them signing to each and subtitles at the bottom. Yet with how the actors acted, their body language and their facial expressions conveyed things words could not have said.

The apes are all memorable, albeit at first it's very hard to tell them apart because- well apes are kind of harder to differentiate than humans but you start to be able to tell them apart from their personalities and the little things. For example Caesar's son Blue eyes has bear claws on him, Koba is very deformed, Caesar's wife Cornelia has a necklace on her head etc. All the best drama, best emotion, the best dialogue and the best scenes come from the apes because all of them are interesting characters. The best part to me in the movie was at the beginning when you see how Caesar's city comes together as a society, no words are spoken but you feel so enthralled of the going on of the apes.'

The movie is also shot very well, you get huge sweeping shots of the city and when the action kicks in the camera sits still, their is no shaky came so you see every bit of action on screen. The action in this movie is awesome- the fight choregraphy whenever the apes duke it out is awesome and by the way.... apes riding horses while wielding AK-47 and riding tanks- what more could you ask from your movie?

The main antagonist in this movie is Koba, Caesar's right hand man who was viciously experimented on by humans and even though he does some pretty damn evil stuff in this movie you still get where he is coming from and sympathize with him. This gives me hope for the Fantastic Four reboot because the guy who mo-caps Koba is playing Dr. Doom and if this performance tells me anything even if Fantastic Four turns out to be worse than the original series at least the villain will be very cool. The movie creates a very good Professor X/ Magneto relationship between Caesar and Koba and if I had to be honest it's done better here than in any of the X-men movies, even better than First Class which is my favorite X-men movie.

Also the trailers sold that the humans are the forefront and the apes are more sort of in the back in this movie. Well the Trailers are wrong because it way more 80% apes and 20 % humans which thanks god because if their is anything wrong with this movie it is that the humans in this movie are pieces of paper in this movie.

Now it's not Godzilla bad because again this is an ape-centric movie with the humans in the background. They are also better than the characters in Godzilla but that's mainly because you get them in limited doses and they don't cut attention away from the apes when they are about to do something cool. Yet they are still as bland as paper. Gary Oldman is wasted  in this movie and is really the secondary villain in this movie, they try to give him a tragic backstory where he lost his family but unlike Koba where it's focused on with Gary Oldman it is only brushed by. In fact it would have been better if Gary Oldman's character was the main human character showing a man's progression from hating the thing that took away everything he loved to understanding them and learning to forgive them. Sadly are main human guy is just this middle-aged white guy who really has no personality, heck we don't even learn his name really, I only knew his name from looking it up on Wikipedia.

Plus you don't care about any of the humans in this movie. Most of the humans are either stupid, unlikeable, underdeveloped or bland. Heck during the big battle I was rooting for Koba to kill all the humans and have Caesar rule. Yet whenever an unknown ape got hurt I basically cried out and prayed to the movie gods most of the apes got out ok.

All in all I give Dawn of the planet of the apes a 9/10- It's a damn near perfect movie, just cut out the human stuff from it.

Ten Good movies to show a film class

Last week I did Ten bad movies to show a film class, this week it's ten good movies to show a film class. Like the last list this movie isn't in a specific order nor are they all movies I like but when I watch them they are all good examples of filmmaking in my opinion. This is all opinion so please do not get angry if a movie you thought should have been up here didn't make it. This list was harder to make because it's easier to talk about bad movies than it is about good movies so this took a while.

 10.)Noah
People have their different opinions on Noah some like it, some hate it or some are just plainly confused by it. The reason I put it in the category of 'good movies' because while their are a lot of things in the movie that doesn't make too much sense it does show the merit of making a risky movie rather than a safe movie. Noah could have easily have been a self-righteous about believing in god and all that but Darren Aaronofsky did take a lot of chances with the movie and the movie is more about whether or not it's good to follow god unquestioningly. It's better to do a risky movie than it is to do a safe movie because while with a safe movie you'll get the praise and the box office with a risky movie you have the opportunity to explore your creative range and try something new. Making a risky movie is much more applaudable especially when you see what Hollywood has become nowadays with all the remakes, sequels, and reboots. A risky movie is also way more interesting than a safe movie that probably has been done a million times.
Noah is also an interesting (I don't mean best) example of how to do a bible movie because a lot of that crazy shit in Noah was in the bible and is in the category of things Hollywood tends to shy away from when doing a bible movie. Noah is more interesting to watch than anything else and while I myself am on the fence of whether or not it's a "good" movie itself but when you want to show it to a film class it is interesting.

9.) The conjuring
In the Ten bad movies list I put Paranormal activity the marked ones on it mostly due to the jump scares over suspense, this one however does the exact opposite. The conjuring is a really good example of horror movie because it puts suspense and atmosphere two really essential things if you want to do a horror movie well at the fore front. It also has very strong characters that you actually like which is rare in a horror movie because for the most part you expect the characters to be chopped liver by the end of it.
This seems hypocritical because I just talked about how a risky movie is much better than a safe movie. The Conjuring is a mix of a typical haunted house/exorcist movie but if you do a safe movie well and actually add something too it (strong characters, abandonment of clichés etc.) you can have a really good movie on your hands.

8.) E.T the Extra-Terrestrial
E.T is a classic by ever sense of the word. E.T is not only a great coming of age film about a boy who feels as if he is truly alone even with his friends and family around him. I think most people, including myself can vouche for a time when they felt as if they were the only human beings left on earth and felt as though no one could understand how he or she felt. It's also a great example of a simple Science Fiction film, I choose this over Star wars (which you should also show to a film class) because of how simple you can go with the genre and not everything has to be this big, dark saga because their are genuinely a joyful moments in this movie even near the end. It is also a great example of showing what real kids especially know a days are like that a lot of directors don't get or don't want to show, the kids swear, they are a bit mischievous just like everyone when they were kids.

7.) X-men: First Class
X-men: First class is my favorite superhero movie and my favorite X-men movie, just getting it out of the way now. Yet that is not why I am putting this on the list, to me X-men first class is the best example of a prequel in my opinion. The problem with prequels is that they often bend over backwards to accommodate the original movies forgoing a story of it's own. It's usually 60% Easter eggs and 40% original story.  X-men: first class is the other way around and more, it's about 70% original story and 30 % Easter eggs. While a prequel by definition is "a story or movie containing events that precede those of an existing work", a prequel still has to stand on it's own if it is to be considered a good movie. If you watch X-men: First class and never watched the original X-men movies or saw the new ones you will be fine you'll follow it very well.

6.) The Lego movie
Fred: The movie, is a movie that did not need to be made and nothing was done with it. The Lego movie is a movie that did not need to be made, looked as though it would be the worlds longest toy commercial yet they did something with it. The Lego movie is a phenomenal movie that proves that you can make a good movie out of anything.  The Lego movie shows great use of Meta-humor, animation (it's 3-D animation but it looks like stop-motion), joy and heart while at the same thing still be very smart and doesn't treat the kids like babies something that is missing from a lot of kids movies.

5.) Hope Springs
I put The conjuring as a counter to Paranormal activity the marked ones and now I need to put a counter to Endless love for romance movies. The reason I put Hope Springs on my list because when we look at most romance movies it's usually about young beautiful lovers or young adults, their aren't really many romance movies where the main plot is an old couple who have been married for a number of years and it's not a comedy it's taken seriously. I would show this to a film class because it does forgo the typical cliché's of a typical romance movie- the sappy dialogue, misunderstandings etc. Instead it focuses on the two leads (Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones) and they feel like people, real people. Which is important in a romance film that the people feel like people not archetypes of people (i.e Bad boy, goody-two shoes girl.) Other films do that well such as Lost in Translation, for example but I put this on the list rather than Lost in Translation is for the fact how they discuss marriage into old age, they show how men and women deal with rekindling a marriage. I know people who go through this were they hit a rut and don't know how to recapture the magic and this film shows what it's like for those people.

4.) What's eating Gilbert Grape
Back when Johnny Depp was still an actor and not a cartoon character he made a little indie film called What's eating Gilbert Grape. Gilbert Grape is a great example of a character piece, the film in it's entirety hinges on the character of Gilbert and it's just to Depp as an actor and Lasse Hallstorm as a director to make his story compelling. Gilbert Grape is an excellent example of taking a very simple concept and making a very meaningful film out of it. It takes a lot of silent moments, it has moments of great happiness and sadness. If you want to teach a class how to do a film that is subtitle in it's message and displays it through the actor and the directing then you might want to show them What's eating Gilbert Grape.

3.) How to kill a mockingbird
I hate to be clichéd in putting one of the greatest book-to-film adaptations ever on this list but goddammit to "How to kill a Mocking bird" is way too good not to include on my list. The thing that makes book-to-film adaptations typically bad is either they take too much from the book ( stuff that worked in the book but won't work in a movie) or take too little from the book (they don't take the core essentials from the book.) It's always either/or never in between, with How to kill a Mockingbird however you have that in between, they take the core essentials of the book while cutting anything that is unnecessary at the same time adding it's own stuff into the movie to flesh out undeveloped parts or characters. You don't have to choose a side when you can just make a compromise.

2.)Scarface
If you go on a lot of movies you'll find a lot of people in the movie industry hate the recent influx of reboots, remakes and sequels while I can see where they are coming from I actually like reboots, remakes and sequels if they are good movies. For example, a movie that a lot of people do not know is a remake is the Al Pacino Scarface. Scarface is one of the best examples of a brilliant remake and shows that remakes can sometimes make movie history. Scarface is also one of those films that shows the whole drug king pin situation pretty well and provides an interesting piece on a man who rises to the top so fast that he's the one in the end that causes his own destruction. It also has one of the most badass endings ever in movie history.

1.) Pulp Fiction
When people ask what makes a good movie my answer is the script- not the director or the actors but the script. Pulp fiction's greatest strength is it's script how the characters are written, the dialogue, the plot everything in this movie rides on the script. Pulp fiction shows how important a script is to the movie making process, if you don't have a good script you don't have a good movie.

Well that took a long time to write and now my fingers hurt. Hope you enjoyed that and see you next time!

Weekend box office Prediction

So as the weekend gets closer I & Hollywood put out our box office predictions for the upcoming weekend. The one big movie coming up is Dawn of the Planet of the apes one of the most anticipated movies of the year and the sequel to one of the best movies of 2011. Boyhood is also coming out but not getting released in the same vain as Dawn so I am not predicting the box office for that. Critical reception for Dawn has been insane with many people calling it the best film of the year so far even though the year is barely half-way over. I am super excited in all honesty and can't wait for Friday to get her sooner. I hope to review it but due to how I've been doing in the term of actual reviews we'll see.

Dawn (I am not typing out the full name) is expected to open to a $68 million opening weekend which is an upgrade  from the $54.5 million opening weekend rise had. Now that we got what Hollywood thinks out of the way here is my prediction.

Dawn of the planet of the apes
Opening weekend: $68-$80 million
Domestic total: $ 180- $ 210 million
International total: $ 320- $ 490 million
Worldwide total: $ 500 million- $700 million

Box office list
1.) Dawn of the planets of the apes
2.) Transformers: Age of extinction
3.)Tammy
4.) 22 jump street
5.) How to train your dragon 2
6.) Maleficent
7.) Jersey boys
8.)Think like a man too
10.) Earth to Echo

While Transformers age of extinction dropped badly in it's second weekend I don't think it will drop bad enough to be dethroned by Tammy although this along with the Amazing Spider-man 2 are pretty much modern examples of franchise fatigue. Earth to Echo with the fact that it came in 6th place this weekend and the fact that a big summer blockbuster is opening this weekend is going to become like the fault in our stars where it just completely drops in it's second weekend. Not from franchise fatigue (Earth to Echo is a stand alone film) but from the fact the target audience is not going to show up for a second weekend.

So that's my prediction, next week we'll get to see whether or not I am wrong. See you Tomorrow!

Tammy Review- This will be my shortest review ever

Spoiler! (I don't really think I'm going to spoil anything really but I put it there for a disclaimer just in case.)

So after many delays I am here with a movie review. I owed the person who went with me to see Jersey boys and this is what they picked. Tammy is a movie that stars Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon as a granddaughter, grandmother duo on their way to Niagara falls after Tammy was fired and cheated on by her personality less husband.

The thing about reviewing a comedy is that it's actually somewhat hard as since a comedy is predicated more on jokes than actual story you can't really review what you liked about it unless you spoil all of the best jokes and ruin it for everybody. However, that's the problem with reviewing a good comedy, reviewing a bad comedy is hard for a different reason, mainly because when the movie is as boring as watching paint dry you really have nothing to say except 'yay' or 'nay.'

That's the main problem with Tammy, it's boring. I only chuckled three times in the theater, not even laughed just chuckled. Susan Sarandon and Melisa McCarthy are likeable in the roles and have good chemistry but they don't really have characters, their more along the lines of playing themselves. Nobody in this movie is bad either their just not that memorable, heck Dan Akroyd is in this movie and he only shows up for five minutes and most likely just for a paycheck.

This is also one of the most sloppily written movies I've seen in a long time, plot points in this movie are either rushed through or under developed. The pacing was also not very great, not bad but just not very great and when you have a movie whose premise has been done to death (ex: Guilt Trip) pace is important.

This is not the worst comedy I've seen this year or ever. It is not the stupidest comedy every ( Grown ups 2 still holds that title.) Nor is it the most boring comedy I've seen in a while (We're the Millers takes the cake on that) but it's still a bad movie and an unmemorable movie at that. If I had to be frank I would wait until DVD to see this movie if you want to see it that badly but it's more of the kind of movie that you put in the background while your working on something else.

Tammy gets a 3/10- Very boring and very unremarkable

Weekend box office

For those of you wondering why I haven't posted a review, expect a review tomorrow. The thing is I am a teenage girl who can't drive so whether or not I go see a movie is dependent on whether my parent's can take me. I am still trying to get my footing on the ground with this blog so sorry for a lot of shit it's all my fault.

Anyway this weekend's box office came in and here it is:

1.) Transformers: age of extinction- $37 million
2.) Tammy- $ 21 million
3.) 22 jump street- $9 million
4.) Deliver us from Evil- $9 million
5.) How to train your dragon- $ 8 million
6.) Earth to Echo- $ 8 million
7.) Maleficent- $ 6 million
8.) Jersey boys- $ 5 million
9.) Think like a man too- $ 4 million
10.) Edge of Tomorrow- $ 3 million

Yeah that isn't... good. Transformers age of extinction had a 74 % drop that is awful in only it's second week at box office and it only ever gets lower from their. It wasn't a great week at box office for movies nor was it critically, the three movies that came out were Earth to Echo, Deliver us from evil and Tammy all of which were panned by critics especially Tammy. Although next week Dawn of the Planet of the apes is coming out next week along with boyhood and both of those movies have been praised by critics (dark knight levels of praise) it's insane. Maleficent has been doing so well the last couple weeks and Edge of Tomorrow is hanging in their for people who love the movie so be glad.

With my box office prediction I was in the range of earth to echo. Now that I have both the weekend box office prediction article pulled up on my screen I realize I was way to kind to Deliver us from evil and this worries me on a fundamental level because the guy who is directing this is directing Dr. Strange (yeah Marvel Phase 3 is not looking good so far.) Tammy I was in the range for but I think in the long run I might have been way too kind to that movie, it is being destroyed by critics.

So that's the weekend box office, maybe Dawn of the Planet of the apes could break $100 million opening weekend.... hello?... anybody?

Ten bad movies to show a film class

This is not a list of horrible movies to show a modern day film class to these are movies that were badly made that are perfect to show a film class to in my opinion. These movies are not necessarily movies I hate, but I think are bad enough to the point where these should be used as examples to show future film makers what not to do. This is all my opinion and there are a lot more worst movies out there but in my opinion these are movies that you can teach an hour class on. You can also call this my "mini-reviews" for the movies listed and this isn't in a specific order.

10.) Endless Love
When I first planned this list I wanted at least one romance movie in here and it was between this and the notebook. The reason I didn't go with the notebook is because of the fact that at least the notebook is shot beautifully and is a little bit compelling when we get to the scenes when they are old.
Endless love however is a lot more boring and is way worse when it comes to the typical clichés of romance movies that people hate. Good girl falls in love with bad boy, disapproving parents (even though they are right), sappy dialogue etc.
Also a  Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation has at least an interesting subplot going on in the background, with Endless love the romance is it and it is super boring.

9.) Godfather part III
I chose this out of all the movie "threequels" because of the fact the godfather III hurts the worst out of any of the terrible "threequels" in movie history. Godfather I and II were hailed as two of the greatest movies of all time and for the next one to be this bad stings as both a godfather fan and a movie fan. A lot of people blame Sofia Coppola (great director, bad actor) for this but there is a lot more wrong with the godfather part III from other bad acting and bad script problems. It's a perfect example of how not to end a trilogy.

8.)Amazing Spider-man 2
Now I don't hate the amazing spider-man 3, I can actually rewatch this film and still be really entertained and like it but when it comes to this, Iron man 2 or Spider-man 3 for over-blown, too much studio interference this wins. I have said that when a studio doesn't interfere enough they end up getting a mess but when a studio interferes too much they can also get a big mess. Sony obviously trying to catch up to Marvel's avengers focused way too much on Easter eggs and building up to a sinister six movie than telling a cohesive story. You can tell the director Mark Webb wanted to tell more of a teen love drama (he specialty and the best part of the movie) then he did a superhero movie. There was just too much going on, too many things underdeveloped and not enough time to tell a good movie. It's also sad because Sony had experienced this before with Spider-man 3 and they repeated their mistakes.

7.) Les Miserables
I loved Les Miserables, I have two different soundtracks of the movies, I even liked Russell Crowe's singing in the movie but I acknowledge it is not that good of a movie. The acting is great for the most part but the reason you show Les Miserables is because for a few reasons.
First how essential cinematography is in a movie and why too much Shaky cam in a movie is a bad idea. With Les Miserables the camera is so close to a person's face and never kept still and I don't think people realize how important a cinematographer is to a movie until he or she has been horribly crippled yet still forced to stand while holding a camera.
Second that make sure the people you hire can actually sing. I was in the minority where I liked Russell Crowe's singing ( I have a bad taste in music) but I acknowledge there are so many other better singers ( i.e Norbert Lewis, Javert from the 25th anniversary musical.)
Third, like I mentioned in my Jersey Boys review transferring the bad parts of a musical to try to stick to it. Too much was kept and not enough was changed in this movie to make the story more cohesive.

6.)Star Wars Attack of the clones
I liked the star wars prequels the same way I liked the original trilogy, I liked all the movies equally but not with the same fan boy obsession as some people or watched them in aw. I watched all of the Star Wars movies before I found out what big of a role they played in cinema, and while  I do respect all of the things the star war movies have done for cinema I have a very passive relationship with all of the movies.
That being said Star Wars Attack of the clones is one of the worst examples of too much creative control and too much pandering to fans ever. The problem with the Star Wars prequels is George Lucas never had a no man on the prequels, someone who will call out all of his bad ideas. This movie is worst than Phantom menace because it pan-handles more to it's fans and of the dull romance.

5.) We're the Millers
To many people the worst thing for a comedy to be is either offensive, unfunny or stupid. To me the worst thing a comedy could be is boring. I hate We're the Miller's with a passion and that's because it was a waste of 90 minutes that I am never getting back. The difference between an unfunny movie and a boring movie is that an unfunny movie at least has jokes in it where as a boring movie has either no jokes or so few jokes that are at least twenty minutes apart from each other. The movie is also a good example of a really flat premise that is really nothing.

4.) Green Lantern
After watching the movie Green Lantern is a good example of bad special effects in a movie. Their are worse special effects in worse movies but when it comes to a modern day movie with the special effects we have today and it's also a good example of the overuse of CGI. The Star wars special effects have been called out on this but at least with the star wars prequels they wore actual clothes and looked pretty. This also to show film students because it's an example on how not to budget a movie.

3.)Eight Crazy Nights
Eight Crazy nights is not only an example of a bad animated movie and a bad Christmas Special. It's offensive, the character's are annoying, it's way too mean spirited for it's own good, bad voice acting and one of the worst product placements scenes ever- it makes Space Jam look like a subtle product placement movie. On the bright side it does have good animation but everything else is complete shit and proves that Adam Sandler should not write a movie.

 2.)Paranormal activity: The Marked ones
I would have typed the paranormal activity series but that would have been cheating and so I put the most recent one. The paranormal activity series is an example of running a horror series into the ground and the overuse of jumps scares instead of building up sense and waiting for the scares. Out of most of the run-into the ground horror movie series the Paranormal activity series stings the most because the first two were amazing and very unique but as the series went on they stopped building suspense, they relied more on jump scares and it started to become very confusing and stupid. It's a perfect example of how not to make a horror series and series decay.

 1.) Fred the Movie
This is a movie that is the perfect example and taking something popular and turning into a shitty movie. I never liked Fred but even if something is popular that doesn't mean it deserves a movie. It's also a movie that accomplishes nothing, is about nothing and has characters that you would like to shoot with an AK-47. Not everything deserves a movie and Fred was one of them.

I hope you enjoyed this, I hope to do more list in the future (expect Ten Good movies to show a film class later down the line) and have a happy fourth of July weekend!

Weekend box office predictions

Friday is coming sooner than expected, I want to see earth to echo but that review will have to wait until sunday or monday because the fourth of july is this weekend. It's family BBQ time and fireworks time. Yet the show must go on and it's wednesday so weekend box office predictions.

Before I get into it for those of you who may have heard about the Transformers 4 box office controversy is that Paramount lied about the box office saying that Transformers 4 broke the $100 million mark when it reality it only made $ 97 million. I really find this kind of pathetic from Paramount and looks like Hollywood hasn't gotten their first $100 million of the year (my beat is on Dawn of the Planet of the apes to break the $100 million.)

So the big movies coming out are Earth to Echo, Tammy and Deliver us from evil. First the box office predictions:

Tammy weekend box office prediction- $24.5 million
Earth to Echo weekend box office prediction- $10.5 million
Deliver us from evil weekend box office prediction- $18.5 million

That's the industry predictions, mine are all relatively lower than what the industry predicts due to marketing and buzz around said movies. To me Earth to Echo would be a cult hit, where as Deliver us from evil might be a small hit where as Tammy might resemble a firework where it's bright at first but soon fades away.
Earth to Echo
Weekend box office: $ 8.5 million
Domestic box office: $ 20- $ 35 million
International box office: $ 30-$35 million
World wide run box office: $ 50- $ 70 million

Deliver us from Evil
Weekend box office: $ 15.3 million
Domestic box office: $ 46- $ 62 million
International box office: $ 70 - $ 80 million
world wide box office: $ 116 - $ 142 million

Tammy
Weekend box office: $ 20 million
Domestic Box office: $ 50- $ 72 million
International box office: $ 50- $ 70 million
World wide box office: $ 100 - $ 142 million

Now that the box office prediction is done tomorrow, whatever I like and that would be- A List!
