Holy Shit I've totally forgot, I'm so sorry it completely slipped my mind. Expect a review to come later today. Anyway I love anime/Manga and I love movies... sadly those two don't freaking mix apparently (F*** you M. Night Shyamalan and the guy who made Dragon ball the movie.) People often say it's because anime's are too weird or perverted or foreign (we live in 2014 people not 1964!) to be made into movies and I disagree because their are some anime/manga's that would do pretty well in an movie format. Here's my pick:
5.) Good Endings
This Manga is about Seji Utsumi and Yuki Kurokawa, and their romance story through high school. Before you guys barf this is actually a really well-written romance manga that sometimes portrays romance better than some movies actually do. This one is the simplest one to make and would be the hardest to mess up (although Hollywood does surprise us sometimes.) A problem with Anime or Manga is that while they do end unlike comics they can run for so long it's hard to find what to condense it to a 90 minute movie yet in manga standards it's pretty short and because it's the most simple (no ninjas, grim reapers or any kind of fantasy or supernatural elements) with the right writer it could turn out to be one of the greats.
4.) Elfen Lied
Another problem with Manga or anime people claim is that American audiences would not see a movie full of unknown Japanese people which is so wrong (for many reasons including racism) because people will buy anything you put in front of them as long as you put good marketing behind them. But still if these old farts are really that naïve, you can easily change all of the characters to Americans with just changing names. Elfen Lied is also a very well-written manga that if done right could actually be turned into an Oscar contender, I won't go too much into it other than it's about a girl named Lucy who has invisible hands. Although if you read the manga or watch the anime to this series (go on youtube) it has a long of nudity and easily one of the most bloodiest series I've ever see so you would have to tone a lot of it down. Still great series deserves a lot more recognition than it's getting.
3.)Attack on titan
This is a recent series and an extremely popular one at that so it would be easy to jump on the band wagon now and get more fans on this if a movie were to be made. Attack on titan is about Eren Yaegar and his battle against the titans. This is an action packed and again well-written manga that if turned into a movie could be a Lord of the Rings style trilogy or the next big trilogy if done right. While this movie or movie series would be really costly with the setting and the titans themselves, it would definitely get your money back with just one scene of someone taking down a Titan with a machete (this is an awesome series.)
2.)Black Butler
This movie would end up being super controversial (along with my number one pick on my list but we will get to that) but it would be a fantastic movie. This manga is about Ceil Phantomhive a young British aristocratic and his devilish (literally) butler Sebastian Michaels, focusing Ceil's revenge against certain groups for the death of his family (although you would probably have to bump up Ceil's age for the movie as in the manga he's only 12.) This would be a wonderful period piece exploring the ideas of revenge and morality with very clever characters especially if they adopted the Jack the Ripper arc for the movie. I have little to say other than this would be one hell of a movie.
1.) Death Note
I think anybody reading this knew this would be my number one choice especially after I stated it would be controversial. Death note is about Light, a young prodigy given the key to the powers of death. This is one of the best written anime's I've ever watched and the best manga I've ever read, clever writing, themes on religion and morality and justice with cool characters to boot. This would come under fire from a lot of religious groups and would be considered pretty "inappropriate" but it would be one of those movies that would stay forever just like the manga and anime have.
So that's my list for the top 5 animes or manga's that could make a good movie. In about an hour a two a movie review will come.
