Weekend box office~ Battle to the death

I know this is a day late but I'm here now so lets get this started.

So this week there's actually a two really significant movies coming out this week Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max Fury Road. This will be interesting as to who will take number one will it be the girl movie sequel, the dead franchise reboot or will the Newest Marvel film keep it's title.

I know for a fact I'm going to see Pitch Perfect 2 (I will get the Age of Ultron review out by hopefully Sunday and maybe review Pitch Perfect 2 the same day or Monday.) I love musicals and it's one of my bonding days with my mom who works a lot. I didn't see the first one to completion but from the twenty minutes I saw I really liked it. I never seen a Mad Max film or even know that much about them other than they took place in the post-apocalypse and the original ones stared Mel Gibson and the new ones stars Tom Hardy. I was way too young for the originals and I've never really liked Tom Hardy (as an actor) or Mel Gibson (as a human being for obvious reasons) and the trailers for the new one none of them have hooked me.

Now personal feelings aside how do I think they will do. This is interesting because it's basically Pitch Perfect 2 vs. Avengers vs. Mad Max. I don't know whether or not Age of Ultron will still be #1 or drop to #2 but I think it will be somewhere in the $30-$50 million percentile rate in any case. Yet one movie that does have a strong chance of beating it is:

  Pitch Perfect 2
Budget: $29 million
Weekend box office: $39-$50 million
Domestic box office: $ 90-$110 million
International box office: $90-$100 million
Worldwide box office:$180-$210 million

If there is any movie that will up throne it, it will probably be Pitch Perfect 2 mainly because it's a brand people recognize, the first one was really well received and I know I'm a girl when say thing this but a lot more women want a lot more female lead movies and it's starting to be proven that women make up a lot of the box office now. Pitch Perfect 2 hits that demographic perfectly. I don't know whether or not the box office will be enough to take down Ultron though so it will be interesting on Monday the results.

      Weekend box office
Budget: $150 million
Weekend box office: $30-$38 million
Domestic box office: $80-$90
International box office: $110-$140 million
World Wide box office: $190-$230 million

As for Mad Max either way I think it's going to be at third place most likely because while the word of mouth has been phenomenal for this movie (with many critics who have already seen it calling it a 'Masterpiece') and while it didn't do it for me the trailers did hook a lot of people. However the reason I think it might only hit #3 is because Mad Max as a franchise has kind of died. Now before some Mad Max fans crucify me think of all the movies that are regarded as classics like Jurassic Park, Star Wars or Ghostbusters. Those movies are always in the public consciousness even if people haven't seen it: I knew Darth Vader was Luke's father before I even seen any of the movies. People are constantly quoting those movies, people are dressing up as the characters from these movies and people can name them in a heartbeat. Mad Max, when I ask people about Mad Max and by that the originals no one can really tell me much about them, most young people today don't even know more than one exist and when people talk of classic blockbuster movies Mad Max is typically omitted from the conversations. The only significant thing people really remember from the original series was Mel Gibson (who many people can't even name his character without looking it up) and Mel Gibson is not exactly a beloved guy in the 21st century. The movie will do well and make it's money back due to word of mouth but because the franchise has been dead for so long it's going to have to jump a couple of hurdles.

Here's my opinion:

Weekend box office
1.)/2.) Avengers age of Ultron/ Pitch Perfect 2
3.) Mad Max Fury Road
4.)Age of Adaline
5.) Hot Pursuit
6.) Furious 7
7.) Paul Blart 2 Mall cop
8.) Ex Machina
9.) Home
10.) Women in Gold

Oh my god Home's been on this freaking list since March, I know the main discussion is going to be Mad Max and Pitch Perfect but it's kind of amazing how much staying power Home's had. And yes I did delay mentioning I am kind of cheating with # 1 and # 2 but I genuinely don't know what's going to happen. Now HOPEFULLY tomorrow will be my editorial which will be about Avengers, Black Widow, Women and radical Feminist... fun.
