Hey guys I'm sorry I wasn't able to do my editorial or review last week, I was in Tampa and didn't really have computer access, I was originally going to do my Insurgent review today but I've been dealing with some stuff today I would rather not think about or talk about, in short Insurgent is not a bad movie it's a lot of fun if really flawed.
Anyway the two movies that came out this weekend Home and Get Hard did way better than expected, which is great for the actors involved as they do get box office hits on their resume's now even though from what I've heard neither movie is all that great. See how they did.
Weekend box office
1.) Home- $52 million
2.) Get Hard- $33 million
3.) Insurgent- $ 21 million
4.) Cinderella- $17 million
5.) It Follows- $ 3 million
6.) Kingsmen- $2.9 million
7.) Do you believe- $2.3 million
8.) Run all night- $2.17 million
9.) The second best exotic marigold hotel- $2.1 million
10.) The Gunman- $2 million
If you remember my weekend box office prediction I thought the best either of these movies would do would be Home at about $40 million, so I was wrong about that. I'm surprised Kingsmen is still in the top ten after almost two months which should tell you something about the movie if it's managed to stay in the top ten for so long and just now got kicked out of the top five. Anyway that's the weekend box office and see you Wednesday for the prediction.

Weekend box office prediction- Get Home
This weekend the only two movies that seem to be coming out are Get hard and Home ($26). Both look like a lot of fun. We won't know until either one comes out, Home looks cute and a fun buddy road trip movie with aliens and I do like Jim Parsons. Get Hard seems OK and I really like both Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell.
Here's how I think they will do.
Get Hard
Budget: N/A
Weekend box office: $30-$40 million
Domestic box office: $65-$75 million
International box office:$ 95-$120 million
Worldwide box office: $160-$195 million
This is one of those movies I think will probably do mediocre in it's opening weekend because I think people are getting sick of Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell when he's outside of Anchorman and animation form yet steadily gain it's budget (which I could not find) back and gain some cult hit status.
Home
Budget: $132 million
Weekend box office: $25-$35 million
Domestic box office:$75-$85 million
International box office: $85-$95 million
Worldwide box office: $160-$180 million
I do not see this movie doing that well mainly because the reviews or word of mout have not been that great and no one has been really talking about Home. Also how in the world did they manage to spend roughly about $132 million dollars on a animated movie that while really colorful doesn't have that revolutionary of animation, the Lego movie cost about $60 million dollars and is way more technically impressive.
Weekend box office
1.)Insurgent
2.) Get Hard
3.) Cinderella
4.) Run all night
5.) Gunman
6.) Home
7.) Kingsman
8.) Do you believe
9.) The Second best exotic marigold hotel
10.)Focus
That's the weekend box office and see you Friday for my editorial.

Weekend box office- Girl fight!
It's Spring Break! For me anyway, so I should not guaranteed of course that I should be able to get everything on schedule this week. Anyway two movies came out Insurgent the sequel to Divergent which I did not see but hope to see sometime this week and the gunman which I know nothing about other than it stars Sean Penn. This week has been a girl power week with Insurgence coming out at number one and Cinderella at a close number two which is good for more women in film, yet bad for older actors in film since Sean Penn who is turning fifty-five hasn't really had a hit in a while. Here it is:
Weekend box office\
1.) Insurgent- $52 million
2.)Cinderella- $34 million
3.)Run all night- $ 5.03 million
4.) Gunman- $5.02 million
5.) Kingsman- $4 million
6.) Do you believe?- $3.6 million
7.) The second best exotic marigold hotel- $3.5 million
8.) Focus- $3.2 million
9.) Chappie- $2.6 million
10.) SpongeBob Squarepants the movie- $2.3 million
Not much to say other than that's the weekend box office and see you Wednesday for the prediction.

Cinderella (2015) review- Sorry this took so long my computer kept breaking down on me
The new Cinderella movie is the next installment in a new trend in movies where classic (Disney version) fairy tale stories are adapted to live action and given a new spin on them. Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Thor and Hamlet) Cinderella out of all of them is probably the closest to it's original animated counter-part albeit expanded in terms of focusing more on the Cinderella character and her romance with her Prince.
First let's talk about the original Cinderella film before we even get into the new one. In modern day standards many people see the movie as sexist, that it's about a girl who does nothing to get out of her abusive household and sits on her butt waiting for her prince to come. I however view it differently, now I'm girl and I can get where people are coming from when they call Cinderella not very empowering but in terms of sexist I don't think so.
To me, to be an empowering female character you didn't necessarily have to be the ice cold, tough sword swinging Joan of Arc type of character to me you just had to be a good character who is proactive. I still like sword swinging female characters as long as they have substance underneath. For example two of my favorite female characters of are Barbra Gordon Oracle (I do really like Batgirl Barbra Gordon but I prefer Oracle out of the two) and Jo Grant the companion of the Third Doctor . Oracle is a paraplegic who despite not being able to kick-ass physically is able to kick-ass mentally and manages to save the day by using her intelligence and computer skills. Jo Grant on the other hand was clumsy and a bit of an airhead but was one of the kindest companions in Doctor Who history who not only managed to bring out a lot of the good in the doctor and managed to help save the day in some stories.
That's what Cinderella is to me a good female character even if she is not a sword swinging Joan of arc type character. She's works hard to not let her evil incarnate family get to her and just survive while still managing to remain a nice and kind person who still has hope and some happiness in her life. When she wants to go to the fault she works her butt off trying to get opportunity to go and when she gets locked in the door by her step mother preventing her from proving who she is she banging on the door working with the mice to get out. I don't know what that says about me but I relate to her and other female characters who only have intelligence, resourcefulness and kindness more than someone like because I don't have athletic skills or leadership skills or am at all a badass like Wonder Woman or River Song.
Now that my opinion on the original film what's my opinion on the new film. It's meh, which translates to OK in my book. Short version is that is has a lot of problems and should really end up being bad but it has for the most part a very good cast, a beautiful production value and is still enjoyable to watch which keeps it as an OK.
Now for the long version. First the good.
The casting with one or two exceptions are good. The best part as you've been hearing is Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremain, instead of going for outright scary like the original animated one she goes for a more comedic light hearted tone of the character and to me it works in her favor as she is entertaining to watch and when she hits the darker moments it gives it more weight, they also give her a motivation that I really like because while you do understand her more it doesn't take away the fact that this is an evil human being and it's a very realistic. The step-sisters are also a ball to watch and make the actresses involved make the most of their scenes. Richard Madden as the prince also does a good job and they do flesh him out a lot more, he's very charismatic, has great chemistry with Lily James and give him a bit more personality. Everyone else is good and gives it their all in their scene.
I also like the fact they show the process of Cinderella becoming a house servant. It starts as Lady Tremain asking for one chore than two chores than she ask Cinderella to stay in the attic than more chores and than her father dies forcing Cinderella to take up most of the responsibilities for the servants because Lady Tremain fired them all.
The practical production design in this movie is phenomenal especially when it comes to color scheme such as Cinderella's carriage in this is a gold color and her dress is more of a dark blue shade, they contrast each other beautifully and really pop. The ball scene is general with all the dresses makes the scene magical. I also think the themes of Kindness and courage are good messages if poorly handled which I will explain later and the society motivations which they don't just do for Lady Tremain but the king and the duke as well are good motivations if not followed through. The movie is overall fun to watch and you definitely won't be bored or wasting your time if you went to watch it for a good time.
Now for the bad.
When people talk about Cinderella some people consider her a sexist damsel in distress who never does anything which I always counteract with that she has to basically do a thousand chores, she's given more chores and berated for making the simplest mistakes and from what we can see she's pretty much kept in total isolation from the outside world as we never see her go out and her only friends are the mice. Now in this version I think that stereotype sort of applies. Cinderella in this movie not only is the most passive female character I've ever seen to the point of almost being a zombie but also has lame motivation and the fact they try to give her more of a personality makes it worse.
What I mean is that in this movie Cinderella's backstory is fleshed out giving her a motivation of why she puts up with her step-family. When her mother is dying she tells Cinderella or Ella in this case which didn't bother me, to have kindness and courage. They also explore the fact she can speak French, loves to read and rides horses (which are more Belle from Beauty and the Beast traits but whatever.) Yet the movie doesn't seem to get what the definition of kindness and Courage are, especially courage. Here are the proper definitions of kindness and courage are from Webster.
Nowhere in the movie does Cinderella exhibit any kind of courage. She never does anything that's hard or frightens her. For example leaving the Tremains. In the original a argument can be made she both not only had no money, was completely isolated from the outside world so she had no knowledge to live outside her family especially since she was a little girl when her parents died. In the film is shows her going outside to market, her having servant friends she can rely on and as I mentioned with the expansion of her character she really has the capabilities to become a teacher or a servant for a nicer family but she never does anything to change her situation. Her parents died when she's a teenager so she doesn't have the excuse of being a little girl and being under the dominance of lady Tremain for years where as here at most it's about a year. On character in the movie even ask her why don't you leave, at first you think with Lady Tremain and other characters she would have a society motivation of her having no where to go or having no money but instead she says states the promise she made to her mother of being kind and having courage.
That's not courage that's endurance and the more courageous thing for her to do would be to try and stand up to lady Tremain which she doesn't really do. Not to mention I don't think her parents would want this type of life for her, it's such a weak motivation and while you can say Cinderella in the original movie didn't have much of motivation but at least they didn't give anyone else a motivation and you could still sympathize with her a lot where as here she comes off as a non-entity or stupid. She's doesn't exhibit anything explicitly kind she's more polite than kind, the closets things I can say she does are the fact she feeds the mice who don't talk back to her and she doesn't really have a relationship towards. I mentioned earlier that most of the cast did well with one or two exceptions, the exception being Lily James as Cinderella.
To me she's really miscast as Cinderella, she definitely looks like her but she has no charisma and energy nor the acting ability to carry a movie. That's not saying she can't act in fact at first I thought she would be really good as she did have a lot of subtitle character expressions but as the movie goes on there's nothing really of substance in her performance and she's rather wooden. The only times she really came alive were when she was with Richard Madden but all her scenes with him are really far between each other so she's left out to dry. I've never seen her on Down Town Abbey (never watched the show) so I can't definitely say she's a bad actress and more so I blame the writers for how Cinderella is portrayed as she is probably the weakest character in the movie and it felt as if they were so busy developing everyone else they forgot about her as everyone even the Duke is given more character development than her.
Another thing that really annoyed me was the infamous dress ripping scene. If you read my analysis of the scene you know I think it's probably one of the most important scenes in the movie as it's basically a symbol of Cinderella's kindness and hard work being torn apart by the step sisters who only want to see her suffer and they end up getting that. In the original it was basically the equivalent of a Disney beating or rape scene here the step mother just tears the sleeves off and a ribbon which she could have fixed if this Cinderella was smart. It wasn't like she was seeing the Prince in this she's supposedly seeing an apprentice. This contributes to the lack of development Cinderella gets and how the writers screwed the character over.
Now one of the few changes that people were talking about before this movie came out was that the Prince and Cinderella were going to get more time to develop their romance in the movie... they get one meeting before the ball. Just one, they don't have a collection or montage of different meetings they meet once, share some banter and boom their in love. This really sadden me because Lily James and Richard Madden legitimately do have good chemistry together and it's one of the better points of the movie but because they don't have another meeting other than talking in the forest for five minutes you don't really buy that they are in love, you buy physical attraction for sure but nothing in terms of actual substance or character. If your going to expand the story and rewrite some things why don't you have it where Cinderella and the Prince (who lies when he first meets her telling her he's an apprentice named Kit) keep meeting each other and have them form an actual relationship. It would be more believable if they met more than three times and you can get behind them better as a couple, especially since it kind of starts as a lie when the Prince lies about his identity and when Cinderella finds out who he is it barley even fazes her when at the very least she should have locked a little shocked. A few characters even reference them only meeting one other time and question how they could be in love and neither give a clear answer. In the movie theater when they met for the first time I thought it was a good start and when I was starting to figure out they wouldn't meet again until the ball it was infuriating because it's wasting much needed development and chemistry.
In fact for a lot of the movie you can say a lot of things go underdeveloped such as the Prince and Cinderella's romance, The King dying which is so rushed through it feels like as if he died from an illness that should have taken a month ended up taking four days and theirs a subplot with the Duke promising the Prince to a Princess but that barely is even an afterthought, if they had more time or a more slower paced this movie would have been better. Also while I mentioned the practical side of the movie was beautiful the CG was pretty bad in the sense you could tell you were looking at CG instead of something tangibly real, much of it looked really fake and poorly done.
I think they also missed out on some more potential with the fairy god mother in the sense that her helping Cinderella comes out of no where. That's not to say it's any better in the original in fact it's a really annoying plot hole of mine in the original but here they had more time. Helen Bohem Carter is completely wasted as the fairy god mother who gets only one scene really, why didn't they make it where throughout her life the fairy godmother approached Cinderella for some kindness and to see whether she was worthy of help, it would have given the fairy godmother more to do and would have helped show Cinderella is actually the kindest person in the world like the movie says she is but never shows she is.
Now it sounds as if I'm comparing this movie a lot to the original and before you say I don't like this movie just because I liked the original, I did find this movie very entertaining and I don't regret seeing it. Yet I can't ignore the fact this movie is a bad movie and just because you criticize something doesn't mean you can't like it or just because you like something doesn't mean it's not bad. Editorial- Why the 1950 Cinderella's dress ripping scene is so messed up
I am having trouble structuring my Cinderella review especially since as I continue to write it it's getting longer and longer so I am moving it to Sunday. For now I don't want to go another schedule day without doing something for you guys so I decided to talking about one of the most disturbing scene in any Disney movie ever.
Whenever you hear about disturbing scenes in a Disney movie you typically think of the death of Simba's father, the death of Disney's mother or the entirety of the Hunchback of Notre Dame but to me is in the original 1950 Cinderella movie Cinderella in order to go to the ball takes her mother's old dress that was retrofitted by the mice into a gown but sadly the wicked stepsisters rip it apart until she's basically left in nothing but the equivalent of medieval times underwear. To this day I can't watch Cinderella without fast forwarding through that scene or just outright skipping the scene all together.
The scene is played very fast, with harsh music to accompany it and it's basically framed like either an intense beating scene or a rape scene. Yet that isn't what to me at least makes it so disturbing and gut wrenching. It gets worse when you think about what happened prior.
Cinderella ever since she was child has been basically turned into a house slave, she's locked away from civilization only knowing of the world inside her family manor (remember we never see or hear of Cinderella every going outside her family estate so it can be safe to assume she is locked away from the outside world.) She sleeps in a dingy attic with only the mice as her friends and everyday is given basically a thousand chores from her step-mother who is evil incarnate and just seems to give her a lot of chores because she finds pleasure in seeing her suffer. She also has to serve her two ugly, dim-witted sisters who also enjoy working her to the bone. And yet through all of that, through all the abuse and isolation she still manages to not only find some outlets of happiness be it singing or dreaming, finds some friends even if it's in the animals but managed also to stay a good and hopeful person.
Cinderella through all intensive purposes should (justifiably) be a cold hearted person who does her chores but is overall uncaring. Yet even when she clearly hates doing the work she still endures through it and remain polite to her step family and puts others before her. Remember when she rescued Gus from the Cat, she had a ready-made shirt and hat for him and since the other mice all have ready made clothes as well you can infer she's done this a million times for other mice. She hopes for a better future and believes despite all of the hell she's gone through it will come someday.
When the invitation for the ball comes Cinderella see's this as a chance for a better life but she can't go until she finishes a list of chores that's at least four feet tall but also a nice dress. She has the dress one of the few remaining things of her dead mother but it's not what you would call up to ball standards. Yet she can't focus on that because she has to work on her human size list of chores, which she manages to accomplishes even though by the time she gets back to her room she pretty exhausted at that point. The mice decide to refit the dress for her because not only has she been nothing but kind to them by protecting them from the cat, feeding them and clothing them but because she is their friend making the dress now a symbol of their friendship. When she gets it she's not only elated she can now but grateful as well.
So when she goes down to tell her step-mother and sisters she can go what do they do, they rip not only the dress which contains alone memories of her long dead mother or even her friendship with the mice. but of what keeps her going and what makes her truly better than either her step mother or her step sisters- her kindness and hope. Once they violently rip it apart probably bruising her in the process Cinderella finally breaks. Through out all their abuse she's managed to keep her chin up throughout the whole thing but now they've finally pushed her over the edge and she can't take it anymore, they've (the step mother and sisters) won.
Thankfully she gets her happily ever after once the fairy godmother shows up so it's all good. That's my analysis of the Cinderella dress ripping scene and see you Sunday for the review.

Frozen Fever review
I have to be honest when Frozen first came out I thought it was only really ok a fun movie with a good message and songs if pretty flawed. Some of the problems that kept me from really liking it or loving it some being the character of Elsa not having THAT much of a personality compared to some other Princesses, the animation was only OK to me, not really buying the relationship between Anna and Elsa that much, the 'twist' being kind of lame and not done very well, and I thought the ending was both a cop-out in a few different ways.
I could not anticipate it becoming that BIG of phenomenon although I could understand why even if I wasn't that big of the movie. Frozen Fever is a short film about Elsa throwing Anna a birthday party on the same day she has caught a cold. It's very short only about five minutes long at most and yet I really liked it, in some cases more than the movie. A lot more actually.
That's mainly because it fixes a lot (although not all of course) of problems I had with the movie. For one thing Elsa actually has a character in the short, in the movie she didn't really have a character in the movie due to so much of the focus being taken away from her and put on Anna as well as the fact it focused so much on Elsa's problems with her powers it didn't give her any room to show us who she really is.
In the short we see her character a lot more: she's stubborn, a perfectionist and very creative and clever person. I also very much bought Elsa and Anna's relationship and I felt for her trying to make sure everything goes perfectly even when she's basically getting completely delusional from her fever. You also buy the fact that Anna just wants to see her sister OK and just wants to be with her on her birthday even if it's not perfect.
Kristoff and Olaf are in this, I really like the slow yet natural pace they're taking with Kristoff and Anna's relationship and they are very cute together. Olaf was the one thing I really loved from the movie and I love him even more here.
If I did have to state any problems is that the one song in this that's sung throughout the entire short is very weak compared to 'Let It Go' or 'The First Time in Forever' and is not even that much of a song and more of words being said in a sing song voice from Elsa and Anna. Also the fact it is so short does constrain a lot of things. Still I really enjoyed it and it did fix a lot of my problems from the movie
Overall I give this short an 8.5/10~ Very enjoyable and although the song was weak and it was short it fixed a lot of my problems from the first movie and made me actually give a damn about the Frozen world. I am glad a sequel is getting made now because I really do want to love this franchise and while I am not there yet I hope the sequel is good so I can get there.

Weekend box office prediction~Hooray movie season is back!
Sorry I missed Yesterday I had to study for a math quiz life happens but to make up for it I not only have this but also a review of Frozen Fever and Cinderella. I will also do a review of Insurgent on Sunday as always. So two reviews this week hopefully unless anything happens.
Anyway movies season is starting up again and it looks like I'm going to be going to the movies every other week from now on until August or September. The only movie of any note is Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, a movie I surprisingly found quite enjoyable. Yes the movie is dumber than Lloyd and Harry from Dumb and Dumber but it's still quite entertaining and I am a fan of post Secret Life of an American Teenager Shaneline Woodly who to me is actually getting better as an actress.
Here's my prediction for the movie:
Insurgent
Budget: $110-$120 million
Weekend box office: $60-$70 million
Domestic box office: $100-$150 million
International box office: $160-$200 million
World Wide box office: $240-$350 million
I am happy to say that more and more movies about women are getting made and I'm glad that they are making money and after Cinderella (meh) a lot of girls should be looking forward to a more action pact girl movie. I am looking forward to this movie as I did enjoy the first one. So that's the weekend box office per my prediction see you later for Frozen Fever.

Weekend box office~Cinderella ran all weekend
I know, I know. I'm sorry I had to go to Idaho last week for a family reunion and I legitimately forgot about the blog for Monday Update I'm sorry. Hopefully I can get back to form and get things back on track. So now time for last week's weekend box office.
The only two movies of note that came out were the Kenneth Baranagh remake of Cinderella , I am planning on seeing it this weekend so expect a review soon. It looks ok, while it looks stunning there isn't really anything that grabs me if I want to watch Cinderella I'll watch the original Disney animated movie. The other movie was another Liam Neeson old man action film run all night which I haven't really seen anything for. So this is how they did.
Weekend box office
1.) Cinderella- $67 million
2.) Run all night- $11 million
3.) Kingsman secret service- $ 6 million
4.) Focus- $5.73 million
5.)Chappie- $5.7 million
6.)The second best exotic Marigold hotel- $5.6 million
7.) SpongeBob- $4 million
8.) McFarland- $3 million
9.) Fifty shades of Grey-$2.86 million
10.) The Duff- $2.85 million
While I'm not that excited for the next Cinderella movie I am really glad to see more female lead movies doing so well and it's also nice to see Kingsman have the staying power it's having which is cool. Nothing much to say other than see you tomorrow for the prediction.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold hotel review
I know I procrastinated to play Dragon age Inquisition and yes I am moving the weekend box office tomorrow I'm sorry. Anyway on to the review.
I never saw the first Best Exotic Marigold Hotel but I've heard it's pretty good. The Second Best Exotic Marigold hotel while watchable and enjoyable feels like eight different movies forced into one movie and no surprise they don't mesh that well.
The main thrust of the movie is that Dev Patel's Sonni is the owner of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which he runs with Maggie Smith's Mrs. Donnelly and in the last movie the hotel did so well they have decided to expand, the company they are looking out for a loan (I think) is impressed by them but want to make sure they are making a good investment so they send in a company worker disguised as a guest to inspect them at the same time Sonni is getting married to his long time girlfriend but complications ensue when a friend of the girlfriends brother (who is the son of a rival hotel owner) comes to mess things up. Happening in the background Bill Nighy's Douglas and Judi Dench's Evelyn are falling in love again with each other but are experiencing justified fears as to whether or not they should go about it at the same time Douglas's ex-wife and daughter re-enter the picture. Also Ronald Pickup's Norman is experiencing complications with his girlfriend Diana Hardcastle's Carol (the events of which are so convoluted and stupid I won't explain here.) Meanwhile Celia Imire's Madge is stuck between two men and Richard Gere's Guy Chambers falls in love with Sonni's mother Mrs. Kapoor. Also Mrs. Donnelly is dying.
Just reading that you should be able to tell what's wrong with this movie it is extremely bloated. It's basically an undercooked overstuffed Turkey that if they had trimmed the fat and cooked over longer it would have been delicious. Just one the of the eight plot lines would have made a good movie within itself. This is mostly the writers fault as except for one of them all of the storylines are rushed through and never given time to develop.
Due to this I couldn't really tell what this movie was about as in these kinds of stories where their are multiple plots going on their is usually a main theme connecting them together but their were SO many plots a few of them feeling as if they were from different movies all together. The characters suffer from the bad writing too as we really don't get to know any of them really, except for Sonni and his mom I couldn't really describe any of the other characters without saying the actor portraying them. Something that I felt was really missing from the movie was the relationships between these guys apart from their respective love interest and the bond between Sonni and Mrs. Donnelly which even that isn't given enough time to develop, I never got a sense Sonni was friends with any of the other people at the hotel. Bill Nighy prepares a speech for Sonni's wedding but he almost never interacts with him and Mrs. Donnelly and Evelyn only get one scene to talk to each other.
It's a shame because one of the movie's strengths is that everyone in this movie gives it one-hundred percent. Most of the cast is super charming and really funny. What otherwise would be trite and clichéd dialogue is suddenly the sweetest thing you've ever heard. Which is what makes the movie go from don't watch to watchable.
The movie is also really riddled with clichés especially in Madge and Sonni's plots. I love Dev Patel but oh my god Sonni was one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen and he chews the scenery every chance he gets. He's the only one of the cast who is genuinely bad in this movie. The best one is Maggie Smith who plays her role with a lot of sharp wit and a lot of dignity and is just a joy to watch. Another stand out is Lillete Dubey who plays Sonni's mom and is enjoyable to watch as well.
Due to how rushed this movie is you don't really care for what's going on. The only plot I did care for was the Bill Nighy and Judi Dench romance. I am a sucker for the finding love again after losing it stories and it's actually done very nicely and a lot of would-be clichés are done with dignity. If the movie would have been about that it would have been great.
I give this movie a 5/10~ The acting is for the most part is great and the movie is charming and funny enough to watch on demand but it's so bloated and rushed and definitely not worth theater prices.

Weekend box office prediction~Don't stay up until 3:00 am playing video games.
Ok yeah I missed both Wednesday and Friday which are both completely my lazy forgetful fault. Wednesday I just basically forgot and weekends are the only time I get to play video games so after school I played video games and forgot my job until 3:00 am on Saturday morning when I went to bed. Movie review tomorrow since I actually got to see a movie this week.
Anyway time for the weekend box office prediction and editorial will be later.
The only three movies of any note are Chappie directed by Neil Blumkamp of district 9, Elysium and soon to be Aliens fame staring Sharto Copley and Hugh Jackman. The other one is Unfinished Business directed by Ken Scott and starring Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson. The last one is The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, directed by John Madden and stars Dave Patel, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, and Richard Gere.
Chappie seems ok, I have never seen District 9 or Elysium mainly because neither of them have really been up my alley, the whole does A.I have humanity has been done before. The Second Best Exotic Marigold looks fun and I like character piece movies which this looks like to be. Unfinished Business looks really bad and really unfunny which is not a good thing for any comedy to be.
Here's my prediction:
Chappie
Budget:$49 million
Weekend box office: $25-$30 million
Domestic box office: $70-$100 million
International box office: $100-$ 130 million
World wide box office: $170-$230 million
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Budget: N/A (I can't find the budget if someone can comment below)
Weekend box office:$15-$20 million
Domestic box office: $40-$45 million
International box office: $45-$75 million
World wide box office: $85-$120 million
Unfinished Business
Budget: $35 million
Weekend box office:$15-30 million
Domestic box office: $30-$40 million
International box office: $30-$40 million
World Wide box office: $60-$80 million
That's the weekend box office prediction and see you later for my editorial/column/opinion/rant.

Weekend box office- Focus on the money
Another day and another time when I really should be studying for my Algebra two test but am too lazy to do so. So anyway two movies came out Lazarus experiment which I had only barely heard of other than it's a Jason Blum produce film (so it has a 25% chance of being good and a 75% chance of being bad), and Focus which I heard was ok.
Focus came in at number one but it still under performed. Initially it was coming in at $20 million and even I predicted it to do about $25 at the very least. It even under performed internationally about only $12 million coming behind The second best exotic marigold hotel (never saw the first but heard it's good.) This seems to be a case of both bad marketing, the marketing for this film made it look like shit and I think After Earth is having a bad effect on Will Smith's career despite still being a good actor and I think people are just starting to get sick of Will Smith in general which hopefully he can turn it around as he is a genuinely good actor.
Other films of significance are that Fifty shades of Grey got bounced to fourth place but it still made a shit ton of money so we are still getting Fifty shades Darker... whoopee.
Anyway everything in the weekend box office

Manga review/Editorial- Assasination Classroom
I know I missed the Friday editorial/column/rant which is a bad start to my new schedule but I had Drug and Alcohol prevention course for my driving test which took a lot of time and really killed me and I couldn't go see a movie this weekend so I'm squishing Friday and Sunday together this week. I know this is mainly a movie blog but the subtitle below the title is movies, movies and whatever else I like. 'Whatever else I like' includes Manga (along with Doctor Who, Agent Carter, comic books, regular books, and video games.)
So anyway on with the show. First what is Assassination classroom, which if you know what anime is like it's kind of insane (if extremely lovely.)
Assassination Classroom is a manga by Yusei Matsui. In Assassination Classroom one day seventy percent of the moon is destroyed permanently rendering it into a crescent by a yellow octopus creature with a smiley face, he threatens to do the same thing to earth in one years time and the worlds militaries and government can't do anything to stop him due to the fact he has a speed of Mach 20. The creature however gives them a chance to kill him if they let him teacher class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School in which he will give the students a chance to kill him. So the Students of the much disrespected delinquent 3-E class must kill the creature who they affectionately give the name Koro-sensei (a pun on Korosenai the Japanese word for unkillable) before graduation or else the planet is doomed, whoever manages to kill Koro-sensai will receive ten billion yen (eighty-three million U.S dollars.)
I've only made it towards the first two volumes of Assassination Classroom and I intend to catch-up but from what I've seen so far it is a really great manga. It's very funny, very likeable, very relatable and is very genuine. What it's basically about when you boil it down is about the teacher-student relationship and how important it is. Students need someone not to coddle them but to at the very least encourage them and comfort them especially when they don't see the potential in themselves or think they are alone. The teacher needs to know the student cares so they have reason to care. The teacher and student relationship is a very important thing that not many things talk about and it does it really well.
The manga is also incredibly charming and really funny just seeing the students and Koro-sensai interact is hysterical especially when they are trying to kill him. There's also some very witty dialogue and images that are just gust bustlingly hilarious. It has a good balance of charm and laughs and some very serious themes and messages.
Some of the characters are:
Koro-sensai is amazing. He's one part hilarious, one part charming, one part heart-warming and one part scary, just because Matsui makes you like and sympathize with Koro-sensai that doesn't mean he makes you forget this thing is going to destroy the earth unless the kids stop him yet he's still enjoyable to read about.
My favorite character is Nagisa Shiota who is one of the main students. He has what I like in characters he is very smart and kind but has a lot of flaws like he's very insecure, very shy and doesn't succeed all the time. He's very relatable and has a very real teenage mindset that a lot of people will appreciate. He's very optimistic and also very observant as he keeps a list of Koro-sensei's weaknesses and they come into play a lot in the series so far and they are also very funny plot points.
Another really cool character is Karma Akabane, a delinquent and in all honesty kind of a psychopath but on the other hand he has this disturbing but nice passion for what he does and does genuinely enjoys it, he's also very loyal and reliable to class 3-E and will be there for them no matter what which is very admirable. His relationship with Koro-sensei is also very funny but very endearing at times.
Tadaomi Karasuma is the government associated worker who becomes the P.E teacher and at first is presented as "the cool-type" but it's played more for laughs because he's so serious and cool when he becomes pissed which is hilarious and has a very interesting relationship with Koro-sensei. Irina Jelavic or Ms. Vich is very interesting a professional hit woman who becomes the language teacher, she's interesting because she's a bit annoying at first but in a short amount of time she becomes pretty entertaining and you do admire the fact she is pretty enthusiastic and dead set on killing Koro-sensei.
The other characters are very fun and very likeable and I'm in the middle of a field trip storyline where were getting a very interesting backstory on one of the female characters.
The art of the series is very good and matches the lighthearted tone of the story very well and all the characters look very unique from each other whether it's face shape, eye shape or hair style.
Now there are a few flaws with the series, everything has flaws that's the fact of life. The first one is I wish they had a few more prominent female characters besides Ms. Vich, there was Manami Okudo a shy, socially awkward girl with a passion for chemistry but she felt a little one-off and Yakiko Kanzaki whose backstory is currently getting revealed but before that we didn't get much on her, there's even a chapter where another character describes her personalities.
Another problem is besides the ones mentioned before (plus a friend of Nagisa's name Kaede) many of the other characters mainly a lot of the students feel like one-off characters so far in that once there backstory which are all so far done really well and a lot of people could relate to they sort of disappear into the background like Manami and Tomohito Sugino who had a very interesting story and a very relatable one but that got solved in one chapter and hasn't been really that prominent since. In fact you can say for the series sometimes pacing can be an issue sometimes too fast or sometimes too slow.
Now does that mean you shouldn't pick up assassination classroom. Hell no! It's still a great series with likeable characters, relatable story and good themes and messages and is just a lot of fun to read.
I give this series (SO FAR) an 8/10.
