Kids today

Due to the fact that I am moving this weekend their will be no movie review for Friday (though I did do two in one weekend last week) and my time valve has been off so I thought Thursday was yesterday until someone reminded me and I was worried because I basically had nothing. I didn't even have anything concrete for today until I started to think about it and while out of bordem turned to youtube to watch beyond the trailer- here's the link by the way:

While watching an old episode some asked a question came up about a person who was concerned DC animated movies weren't kid friendly anymore (too much violence, swearing and too much adult content.)  For example many people were very turned off by the type of language used in Guardians of the galaxy (masturbation joke, swear words, etc.) And that it wasn't appropriate for children especially since it was coming from Disney.

Now I'm pretty young, I'm still in high school and I have cousins and friends who are younger than me. I also still remember being in sixth grade. Why I am bringing up sixth grade? Well that's where I learned what the F word was as well as ninety percent of the swear words I know today. I have a cousin who is currently leaving fifth grade but knows some swear words already and will probably know more when he is in sixth grade. Heck I even have a cousin in first grade who knows one swear word know.

The thing is now a days kids are becoming more aware to not only swear words but sex today. I never had the talk with my parents but by sixth grade I knew what sex was. In this day and age more and more kids are becoming aware to stuff like this. I learned about swear words not from movies or TV shows but from my peers who in school used it like everyday language. I even started swearing under my breath by the time I was in seventh grade.

Whenever the subject of too inappropriate for children comes I always think "Most kids probably know what that shit is." I think the idea of being "too inappropriate" is a joke because kids aren't perfect little angels especially this day and age. Most of the inappropriate stuff most kids already know about and they talk about it with other kids. They just don't say it however if it's around adults. Kids know that it's better to not swear in front of adults so they won't get punished or a stern talking too.

That's why I've never thought the whole "we need to protect the children" thing was valid, most kids know this stuff and if they don't they will learn it eventually.
