SPOILERS!SPOILERS!SPOILERS!
Into the woods was previously a Broadway musical that is now being adapted into a movie starring James Cordon, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Daniel Huttlestone and company as they all try to achieve their happily ever after but soon learn all wishes don't turn out the way you might want to or expect.
I have never seen the musical before but I did read about it on Wikipedia so I know for the most part what it is about and the premise is exactly the same as the musical. The Baker and his wife want to have a kid and the witch who cursed the Baker's family will remove it if on a blue moon at midnight they give her a cow as white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a slipper as pure as gold, and a cape as red as blood. Their story ends up intertwining with Cinderella, Jack and the bean stalk, Little red riding hood and Rapunzel and stuff goes down.
I have said previously that I don't think there has ever been a truly great movie musicals due to the either the director have to sacrifice either the movie or the musical to make just one of them work, the length, how differently musicals are styled and performed from movies so on and so on. Into the Woods is no different.
Yet for the first two thirds of the movie I love it, it's funny, charming, everyone can actually sing really good, the music itself is phenomenal and it looks great with the sets, costumes and make up along with most of the special effects. All of the fairy tales blend really well together. It's a really good time and you won't be bored with it at all.
Notice however I say first two thirds and the reason I say that is because when we hit the third act everything goes crazy and the movie takes a dive towards hell faster than anything I've ever seen. This also enforces my thing about how I think you can't mesh a movie and a musical very well and expect to do both good and one of the reasons is the length of a musical compared to a movie.
Most musicals are two act structures either of which can go on for four hours while three acts of a movie last anywhere from thirty to forty minutes. For the first two acts of Into the woods that's not a problem all of the characters motivations and characterizations are simple but well done and the end of the second act feels like the end of a movie, heck once you get to the second act you can leave the movie and get a short, fun little ride you wouldn't mind revisiting in the near future.
The first two acts stretches over the first act of the musical allowing for everyone to get screen time and develop the characters nicely. The second act of the musical is condensed into the very short run time of the third act and the thing is the second act is the most complicated part of the musical. A lot of characters motivations for doing certain things which I will talk about later feel really rushed and out of place, some characters disappear from the movie completely and never return, and some characters die under really lame and in all honesty very confusing circumstances.
The entire movie is very quick paced which can be jarring at first but you get used to it and it does start to slow down after a bit. Yet when the third act comes it brings the quick pace back, turns it up to eleven and the movie falls apart because of it.
The movie's main message is that you may get what you want but it might not be what you want or good for you. Yet it never really explores that until the third act and a lot of it feels really forced when all is said and done.
Ok back to something positive and I need to get off the third act before this gets longer than it probably will be so finally the cast and this also starts my whole SPOILERS thing because I will mention some of the characters fates.
I love James Cordon (he's from Doctor who as Craig Owens) and Emily Blunt in the film. They act very good in the film and both sing really well especially Emily Blunt, they are both very good and likeable characters and have good chemistry together and make a very nice and believable couple. They bicker a lot but they love each other and will do anything for each other. In the film The Baker's wife (she and the baker don't have names) is kissed (although in the musical she has sex with) the prince but I do like they portray her refusing at first and quickly regretting it, what I don't like however is the movie killing her for no reason than to further the Bakers arc with his dad which is completely rushed and given no development until that point and it makes it feel like her death was really unnecessary and she feels really like a victim. This all happens in the third act by the way.
Anna Kendrick sings very nicely in the movie and gives a good performance but I didn't really like Cinderella as I really didn't get to know her too well and there's not much too her expect being nice and kind of indecisive.
Daniel Huttlestone as Jack and Lillia Crawford as little red riding hood did a very good job singing wise and acting wise. They had very good characters and were always fun to watch on screen and unlike a lot of child actors weren't annoying which is very good.
Chris Pine was also surprisingly good in this movie and can actually sing really well to the point where I kept thinking that he should consider doing Broadway since every movie he's in that's not Star Trek tends to flop. Bill Magnussen is also very good singing wise, he's not a bad actor but we never really get any sort of moments with him where he gets to only act so it's hard to decipher whether or not he's a good actor. Pine and Magnussen have probably the best song in the movie "Agony" and I won't give too much away but it's both the most hilarious part of the movie and is really nice to listen too. Mackenzie Mauzy is ok as Rapunzel, the thing with her is that she doesn't really get to sing and not act either. These three characters in the movie are some of the people who end up with the Baker's wife suffering the most because of the third act.
In the musical Rapunzel dies but for the movie they cut it out because it was too dark. You can tell that was originally in the script to keep that key plot point before the Disney heads removed it because her and her Prince charming disappear completely from the movie and never come back. The Rapunzel story doesn't even need to be there because the only thing she adds is to give the witch some redeeming values and some dimension. Chris Pine's character also turns into a complete douchebag at the drop of a hat and it comes out of nowhere with no context or credence at all.
Meryl Streep as always does a good job in both the singing and the acting department. She's given great songs and doesn't dare disappoint. She's got a great character and I love Streep in this type of role where she gets to have a lot of fun. However I don't think she does that good enough of a job to warrant all the awards she's been getting except that she's Meryl Streep. I know it's been a slow year for females in supporting roles but come on there has to be enough to give awards to other than Meryl Streep. She doesn't have that Anne Hathaway "I dreamed a dream" moment really to warrant it. Also she dies in a really confusing way to the point where I and my mom kept trying to understand her death scene but kept failing at it.
Now finally Johnny Depp as The Big bad wolf. In all honest there was no reason for him to be there as he dies fifteen minutes into it. He's not bad in any department but it was kind of jarring seeing him there in a really awkward and silly costume that would have made way more sense and looked better if he had been in motion capture and had been an actual CGI wolf. In fact with how little he's in the movie you could have asked for a less expense Broadway actor like Hadley Fraser or Ramin Karimloo who in all honest would have been better than Johnny Depp who again was not bad but had no purpose to be there.
I give this movie a 6.5/10- This movie was great and I really enjoyed it up until the third act. Still it's a movie I do recommend seeing if you want to have a good time.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Hobbit Battle of the five armies review
Spoilers! Also sorry this is coming out really late I just went to the movies this Sunday. Christmas parties are kind of prevalent in my life right now
"The Hobbit the battle of the five armies" (three and a half armies or even four if we want to get technical), is "supposedly" (there's still the similarion and some other works I believe) the last movie of both the Hobbit trilogy and "The Lord of the Rings" movies in general. Now truth be told I've only one of the original Lord of the Rings movie- Fellowship which I really liked but I only watched recently which was last week. That's mostly because I was too young to know that the movies even existed let alone was old enough to see a movie in theaters. I also have not read any of the Lord of the rings books either. I have read the original Hobbit book and I have watched all three films.
I loved "aN unexpected Journey" even though a lot of people hated it, I loved it because it was a good adventure movie to me, it was charming, I liked a lot of the characters and Bilbo Baggins a character I loved (he's like my twelfth favorite character which is why I didn't put him on my top ten favorite characters list) was actually the focus of it and was played wonderfully by Martin Freeman (who I also love.) I hate "Desolation of Smaug" because to me it was too convoluted, filled with a lot of characters I didn't like, was boring and was so long with such a slow pace I wanted to kill myself twice by the halfway point. That being said how did I feel about "Battle of the five armies".... it was ok.
I didn't hate like "Desolation of Smaug", I overall did like it and could watch it again but I didn't love it like "An unexpected Journey."
First off lets get to the good. Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins is as wonderful as ever, he's interesting to watch and is completely likeable. Martin Freeman has this really low key charm that is comfortable and makes you want him to be your friend which is why I was mad when he got kind of shafted in "Desolation of Smaug" especially considering who was put into the forefront in his place. I'll get to them later but I really didn't like the Dwarves in this movie as opposed to the last two but a stand out among them was Kili who despite a rather "meh" romance was an actual character with a distinct personality and Aidan Turner did a good job with hardly anything to work with.
I also really liked Lee Pace in this movie who I wish had his character of Thraundil expanded in this movie because he seems really interesting and does prove by the end to be a little more than the pompus ass he was originally. A standout was Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman who was really cool, he's very likeable, very relatable and you were rooting for him and his family to be ok in the end and come out with a happy ending. This makes me hope Luke Evans has a good career overall because he really is a good actor and does a lot with roles such as the every man role and adds a lot of weight to it.
A big problem I had in the last movie was the pace, "Desolation of Smaug" dragged in so many places and did a lot of padding. It made the movie which is already pretty long felt even longer and boring and made it not worth rewatching for me. To me there is a certain level of length of a movie I can take before I hit a wall, get bored and want to snap, in fact you can say that for a lot of people in fact, and pace in a movie can help a movie that is three hours long feel pretty short or painfully long.
Thankfully for "Battle of the five armies" despite being two hours and twenty-four movies breezes by very pleasantly and doesn't drag, all thanks to the fact they are a bit more able to work with a faster pace this time around. "Battle of the five armies" on that note is very entertaining and a lot of fun to watch, the action is great and one of the best is a wizard battle between Sauron's forces and Elrond, Saurmon and Galadriel (who strange enough after their battle in the beginning disappear for the rest of the movie and never return or are mention.)
The movie is also wonderfully scored and has an orchestral soundtrack that actually almost compeled me to buy it ITunes.
Now of course no movie is perfect and while I did like this better than "Desolation of Smaug" this one still has some problems. For one thing Tauriel is a waste of a character, while Kili clearly has some character outside of his romance with Tauriel, Tauriel really doesn't and while it's cool to see her kick some ass other than that their isn't much too her. And when you've got a character completely original to the source material it could have been a chance for Jackson and company to get creative. In comparison to "Fellowship" (the only one I can compare with since I have yet to see "Two towers" and "Return of the king") while Arwen was mostly a love interest you could tell she was her own person with something to her and from some stuff I heard gets more interesting in the later movies. The romance between her and Kili isn't bad but it's never fully developed and they don't even get together by the end so it's kind of pointless.
Legolas is also dead space that could have been used to develop other characters. There is some stuff with him and apparent "mommy issues" but it's never fully developed and feels just tacked on with no purpose. The Dwarves which I loved in the last two films have really nothing to do here except either fight or die.
Speaking of the Dwarves my least favorite character in the entire series is Thorin. Richard Armitage is a great actor and overall gives a good performance but my god the character of Thorin Oakenshield is a selfish, pompus douchebag. He almost murders Bilbo, refuses to help the humans whose problems he's caused, he would rather go to war than give back some jewels just to spite someone and is a paranoid prick. I know the intent is that he's a good honorable man who has now been corrupted but even in the last two movies he was a selfish ass.
And the thing is you can have a character who is a selfish ass and still make the likeable for example Boromir in "Fellowship of the ring" was an ass but he had more redeeming qualities that made you give a damn that he died.
However probably the worst part of this movie is the special effects. Almost every backdrop you can tell was done in front of a green screen and that's not saying CGI is at all bad but here it looked terrible. Sorry to bring it back to "Fellowship" but that movie was made in 2001 and looks fantastic compared to this film because mainly it was actually there. When you have actual sets and good CGI or effects that make the world look real it creates an atmosphere that makes the movie more than it is and allow you to get into it better. Here because you can tell everything is a special effect to the point where sometimes the characters were completely CGI it takes you out of the movie and doesn't allow you to connect as well.
A finale problem I have is pacing, while I did include as a good thing about the movie it's also a bit of a bad thing as well because it goes by so fast you never have a chance to breathe and we never really find out what happens to most of the character. Elrond, Sauroman, and Galadriel completely disappear after their five minute battle, Legolas is underdeveloped, we never find out what happens to Tauriel or Bard even though they end up surviving the film and the movie kind of ends abruptly.
Overall I give this movie a 5.5/10~ I liked this movie way better than "Desolation of Smaug" this is a very flawed movie
Also as an after thought I will give my opinion on whether the Hobbit as rather short and simple book into a trilogy. This for me is in the same realm as splitting a movie into two parts, I try not to count it into my finale score as whether or not it was necessary. I actually think that the Hobbit did need to be more than one movie but it did not need to be three. Two movies would have been perfect and it would actually make this series a lot stronger if they split "Desolation of smaug" right down the middle putting the first half with "An expected journey" (end it with them after Laketown and reaching the mountains) and put the second half with "Battle of the five armies" (start it with Bilbo meeting Smaug for the first time) and rename it "There and Back again" which was supposed to be the original title for Battle of the five armies.

Editorial~Double edge sword
Yesterday and today it was found out that North Korea may have been the ones behind the Sony hack thanks to their cyber terrorist unit. Now I'm not going to give a straight up political opinion other than the fact it's kind of scary. The terrorist gave a threat that unless the movie "The Interview" whose plot revolves around the assassination of Kim Jong-Un was cancelled something really bad would happen to the theaters and anyone in the vicinity of the theaters showing it. People got very vocal about it myself included.
I didn't talk about it right away because I had just heard it and got really passionate about it without thinking about it objectively and the thing is I needed to think about this situation objectively as to not be unfair and at the very least logical to both sides and it would have been incoherent sentences of me bitching. This is overall a sucky situation, it's a double edge sword neither choice comes out with the best solution and either way were hurt from both sides. The logical side and the more passionate side.
On one hand yeah I can see why they did it. This is the first time something like this has ever happened with people threatening to do something terrible all because a movie that was kind of controversial was shown. It's only been two years since the Aurora shootings where theaters were blamed heavily for something nobody saw coming and it would have been way worse if something did actually happen and theaters knew about it but let it happen anyone. At the end of the day people's lives are being threatened all over a movie which from what I hear from the eleven critics who've seen it, it's not even that good. Really if you were in that situation what decision would you make, it's a hard choice and they ultimately went with the one they saw as best in a pretty dark situation that not many people experience and I can't fault them for that.
On the other hand it sucks completely because it basically shows terrorist can just make one threat and we will bow down in a moment, it gives credence for other hackers to try and pull stuff like this, it basically dampens creative expression when still a lot of people frown upon it and the effect this will have on Hollywood going forward will be horrible. Don't believe me about that last one, Badass Digest reported the new Steve Carrell movie directed by Gore Verbinski was cancelled because it was set in North Korea, and you know Hollywood would be more afraid to do more politically charged film be it a comedy or serious drama. And don't give me that if it was Obama we would be pissed, yeah some people would be mad but when we have stuff like House of Cards and Zero Dark Thirty which shows American politics in sometimes the worst of light (and the fact Obama has the worst approval rating of any president ever.) It makes me mad a movie that was just trying to do something daring was shut down completely and was punished for it. Not to mention Sony which while my least favorite studio ever I feel bad for because a lot of those emails are private and a lot of people are losing jobs over it and a company that was not doing so hot before is on the verge of shutting down completely.
Either way you look at this, this situation sucks and while I am more on the whole this sucks side of the argument I can't ignore the fact I do understand why they did pull it. This is a grey situation in every sense of the word and it's only just beginning.
That was depressing, see you tomorrow for my Hobbit battle of the five (well three) armies review.

Weekend box office predictions~ Museums, musicals, Middle earth and I am mad
First off tomorrow my editorial will be about the North Korea Sony Hack The Interview incident because I want to collect my thoughts, it's getting late and I am too mad to do that thing right now. The whole thing is B.S by the way.
This week three big movies come out Hobbit the battle of the five armies (or 4.5 armies but whose counting), Night at the museum three, and Annie. I love musicals but I have really no inclination to see Annie, I liked the second Night at the museum movie but I don't have any real inclination to see it but I will see Night at the museum three before I see Annie and for Battle of the five armies I loved the first Hobbit film, hated the second one so for the third one I am mixed on whether to go and see it but out of the three this is the one I am going to see and most likely review.
Anyway on to the predictions.
Hobbit the battle of the five armies
Weekend box office: $70-$100 million
Domestic box office: $200-$350 million
International box office: $500-$700 million
Worldwide: $700-$1,000,050 billion
This one is going to be tricky because since this is the last of both the hobbit and Lord of the rings movies this is supposed to be guaranteed to do big bucks but with the reaction to the last two Hobbit movies and the fact that box office decreased from an Unexpected journey to Desolation of Smaug the tide could go either way but still expect this to do big.
Night at the museum 3
Weekend box office: $32-$42 million
Domestic box office: $90-$140 million
International box office: $170-$250 million
Worldwide box office: $270-$390 million
I get the feeling I am one of the few people who genuinely like the series and from what I am hearing most people aren't very excited to see it but this being the last movie and the last movie Robin Williams will ever appear in (ok that makes me sad now) again this should do decently considering the last two did well enough to warrant sequels.
Annie
Weekend box office: $25-$30 million
Domestic box office: $ 65-$85 million
International box office: $95-$100 million
Worldwide box office: $ 160-$185 million
I love the original 1982 Annie musical, after I first saw it you couldn't get me to stop watching it, I love it. The remake however I and a lot of other people aren't excited to see this one, mainly because it doesn't look good. Heck this isn't even the first time it was remade, it was remade back in 1999 and that one was pretty bad.
Weekend box office
1.)Hobbit Battle of the five armies
2.) Night at the museum 3
3.) Exodus Gods and Kings
4.) Hunger Games catching fire
5.) Annie
6.) Penguins of Madagascar
7.) Top Five
8.) Big Hero Six
9.) Interstellar
10.) Horrible bosses 2
So that's my prediction for the weekend box office and see you tomorrow for my editorial/rant on the whole The-interview-North-Korea-Sony incident.

This week three big movies come out Hobbit the battle of the five armies (or 4.5 armies but whose counting), Night at the museum three, and Annie. I love musicals but I have really no inclination to see Annie, I liked the second Night at the museum movie but I don't have any real inclination to see it but I will see Night at the museum three before I see Annie and for Battle of the five armies I loved the first Hobbit film, hated the second one so for the third one I am mixed on whether to go and see it but out of the three this is the one I am going to see and most likely review.
Anyway on to the predictions.
Hobbit the battle of the five armies
Weekend box office: $70-$100 million
Domestic box office: $200-$350 million
International box office: $500-$700 million
Worldwide: $700-$1,000,050 billion
This one is going to be tricky because since this is the last of both the hobbit and Lord of the rings movies this is supposed to be guaranteed to do big bucks but with the reaction to the last two Hobbit movies and the fact that box office decreased from an Unexpected journey to Desolation of Smaug the tide could go either way but still expect this to do big.
Night at the museum 3
Weekend box office: $32-$42 million
Domestic box office: $90-$140 million
International box office: $170-$250 million
Worldwide box office: $270-$390 million
I get the feeling I am one of the few people who genuinely like the series and from what I am hearing most people aren't very excited to see it but this being the last movie and the last movie Robin Williams will ever appear in (ok that makes me sad now) again this should do decently considering the last two did well enough to warrant sequels.
Annie
Weekend box office: $25-$30 million
Domestic box office: $ 65-$85 million
International box office: $95-$100 million
Worldwide box office: $ 160-$185 million
I love the original 1982 Annie musical, after I first saw it you couldn't get me to stop watching it, I love it. The remake however I and a lot of other people aren't excited to see this one, mainly because it doesn't look good. Heck this isn't even the first time it was remade, it was remade back in 1999 and that one was pretty bad.
Weekend box office
1.)Hobbit Battle of the five armies
2.) Night at the museum 3
3.) Exodus Gods and Kings
4.) Hunger Games catching fire
5.) Annie
6.) Penguins of Madagascar
7.) Top Five
8.) Big Hero Six
9.) Interstellar
10.) Horrible bosses 2
So that's my prediction for the weekend box office and see you tomorrow for my editorial/rant on the whole The-interview-North-Korea-Sony incident.

Weekend box office- Exodus: why bother?
So the big movie that came out this weekend was Exodus (which was bad) and a small movie called Top five came out (which I heard is good but it's an Indie movie so I probably won't see it for six months.) Top Five for an independent movie did pretty good at the box office where as Exodus despite being number one went under what I and everybody expected it to. Here's what happened.
Weekend box office
1.) Exodus: Gods and Kings- $24 million
2.) Hunger Games: Mockingjay- $12 million
3.) Penguins of Madagascar- $ 7 million
4.) Top Five- $6.8 million
5.) Big Hero six- $ 6 million
6.) Interstellar- $ 5 million
7.) Horrible bosses 2- $4 million
8.) Dumb and Dumber to- $2.7 million
9.) Theory of everything- $2.4 million
10.) Wild- $1.5 million
So that's the weekend box office, everything is going well for every movie especially for Theory of everything and Wild but if your Exodus you might want to rethink yourself... a lot.

Exodus: Gods and Kings movie review
Spoilers
Exodus is a Ridley Scott's new film about Moses and the Ten Commandments. First off I have never seen the original Ten Commandments movie, I am pretty young and I am still catching up on a lot of films in movie history, I did see the Prince of Egypt movie... when I was five and can barley remember most of it but I did remember liking it and the parting of the sea scene. I am Catholic and I am a believer in God (I'm not a religious nutcase, I'm pretty laid back) but I only remember the barest of basics of the story of Exodus. So I'm judging this movie on it's own terms. Sadly the movie kind of sucks on it's own.
Exodus: Gods and Kings should really be retitled, Exodus: wastes of time
Lets' start with the god because while I overall thought the movie was bad I didn't completely hate it, I thought Prometheus was boring but I still liked some parts of it (special effects, David and Schmidt.) The special effects were amazing with the visuals the burning bush looked really good, the scope, the clothes, the settings and environment was beautiful the only thing that bothered me was they did use CGI animals which always annoys me to no end because how hard is it to get trained animals for a five second scene but I've complained about that enough so moving on.
The characters of Moses and Ramseses are well written, I feel bad for both men (well Ramsses I know is an evil dictator does have some ok qualities like he does generally care for Moses and he's a loving father), and some interesting stuff is done with Moses. Yet probably the best part of the movie is the Plagues, it was engaging, interesting and had me on the edge of my seat when they were occurring and that was the only time the movie was any of those things for me.
Now let's get to the bad.
One of the major problems in that it feels like it's missing a lot of scenes, a lot of stuff that is either explained or brushed over in this movie feels as if there was a scene with it but it was either cut out of the script or cut out of the movie in editing. An example of this is when Moses is explained to who he is they explain it very thoroughly and in a way they really should not know what explicitly happened and it feels like they are making up for not having filmed those scenes and using them as the beginning. Moses also meets his wife very abruptly, Moses says hello to his real brother but nothing comes about it and it feels like there should have been more with them, that's another example and even just how they get in and out of places like when Moses confronts Ramsesses for the first time since his exile, he and five other people break into and out of the palace without once getting caught by the guards.
Another major problem is the pacing of this movie and the pacing of the movie is very weird. It's about two hours and thirty minutes long and in a way it has too slow and too fast of a pace. The movie is both dragging and makes it feel like it's been going on for forty years but rushes over what should be key moments and doesn't take a break, it doesn't stop long enough for really anything to resonate with you and create an impact.
Except for Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton most of the actors they got have nothing to do and so are wasted. Sigourney Weaver shows up in five or six scenes and has two lines, John Turturro is in it for ten minutes then dies abruptly, Aaron Paul has no reason to be there and hardly says anything, Ben Kinglsey's the same as with most of the cast. Which is why it's so stupid there aren't more Egyptian people since most of the "main cast" hardly does anything.
The movie has very big tone problem as at certain points it doesn't know whether it's a biblical movie or not. There are parts saying "yes God is doing all of these things" and Moses talks to god in this movie but on the other hand there are parts saying "don't believe in God it's about you" and they portray Moses in some aspects as he's not talking to God but has gone crazy and some stuff can be explain. It does ultimately fall under that it is completely Gods work but for a lot of the movie it kind of flip-flops on itself. And speaking of God, God is represented as a child talking to Moses (Mass effect three anyone?) and I know this is clearly Old testament God but this God is down right psychotic and awful and kind of bullies Moses into doing things so it's kind of hard to believe that Moses would follow him and believe in him at the end. Yet at the same time it does present and interesting concept of God being a child throwing a temper tantrum ("GIVE ME MY TOY OR I WILL KILL YOUR CHILDREN") but the film doesn't really go with it or seems to acknowledge that.
Yet probably the biggest sin of this movie is that it's just kind of boring. Throughout the movie the acting is very stiff and lifeless with the exception of Christian Bale who makes anything kind of exposition interesting, no one seems to give any effort and it feels like a lot of them barely want to be there. The dialogue was so flat I started to imagine the Charlie Brown teacher speaking in the place of most of the actors. The action is very standard and the big iconic set pieces such as the burning bush and the parting of the red sea (I'll get to that in a second), while look pretty are meh when they should be "oh my god that is amazing." From what I've heard they don't add anything new to the story and the only thing they do add makes what supposed to be the most Iconic thing in the story of Moses ever boring and pointless.
Of course I am talking about the parting of the red scene. Something that is supposed to be stunning, epic and just amazing, dumb and boring. Instead of a staff it's matching twins swords Moses uses to part the red sea and of course Ramsesses has the other one. They don't even part the sea technically it just kind of evaporates and comes back in form of a flood and rain.
If Noah is what you should do with a biblical story, make it interesting, ambitious and entertaining Exodus is what you don't do make it dull, standard and strip what it made it unique and memorable and make it boring.
I give this movie a 3.5/10~ The plague, special effects, Ramesses and Moses were good but everything else is basically a sin against what it could have been.

Editorial~ Exodus casting discussion
I'm not dead! Yeah I was sick on Wednesday and this week has been testing week at my school so I've been busy but I'm back now and with school ending next week and I'm almost done with holiday shopping I hope to get back on Schedule. This week I saw Exodus and I feel obligated to talk about the controversy surrounding this movie. The white wash casting of ancient Egypt's. The review for this movie I'll post up later because I don't want to mix it in with my actual review even though I am going to say some things that I will likely say in my review later.
I do agree completely in 2014 it seems really stupid that in the roles of ancient Egyptians especially when they are either the whitest people you could cast ever. Especially considering most of the extras are Egyptian or Israelite, when Ramsey's and Moses's wives are both Egyptian, or when the Egyptian make-up and clothes make it more noticeable that they are white and wearing fake tans, and when most of the white actors are barley in the movie for five minutes, do nothing or recognizable as themselves.
I'm not even kidding on the last one some of the big white actors who are in this movie are in it for ten minutes at best and don't do a goddamn thing. So it makes it really weird why they couldn't just Egyptian or people whose ethnicity are close to people of Egyptian descent.
I know in the Charlton Hesston version it consisted of an entirely white casts, but considering the climate back then where unless you were a white heterosexual male life in America kind of sucked for you to one degree or another. In 2014 after things such as the civil rights movement why is it so hard for a film to even just have one person of ethnicity in a main role.
The casting of Christian Bale is ok I can over look he is not Hebrew. Joel Edgerton you can still tell is white even though they do make some form of corporeal effort with him but it looks really bad and stupid when he is in his pharaoh gear. Ben Kingsley you could pass off as any ethnicity (except maybe white) so that didn't bother me so much. What the heck were John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver and Aaron Paul doing in this film, they are the most noticeably white actors in this film, especially Weaver and Turturro who every time came on it was both laughable and cringe worthy.
I know the common excuse is that ethnicity shouldn't matter if the movie is good and should be held up on it's own merits, if Exodus was good the casting wouldn't be that big of a deal but Exodus isn't a good movie, that's what I'll be talking about next time.

Weekend box office prediction: Nothing literally nothing
Like the title suggest there is literally nothing coming out except for a movie called "The Pyramid" which I had no idea existed until last week when I saw a really short promo for it. It's a found footage horror movie which looks like it could be a spin off to As above so below. I'm not even joking if you watch this and the As above so below trailer it would look like almost the same movie just with different actors. Heck I read the premise for The Pyramid and it sounds the same as As above so below with the whole thing being their stuck in a labyrinth this time. Anyway here is my prediction for it.
The Pyramid
Weekend box office: $4-10 million
Domestic box office: $20-$30 million
International box office: $25-40 million
World wide box office: $45-$70 million
Yeah while for any other movies this would be a bomb considering this is a found footage movie which has an audience still and can be made for super cheap this will do relatively OK.
Weekend box office
1.) Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1
2.) Penguins of Madagascar
3.) Big hero six
4.) Interstellar
5.) Horrible bosses
6.) The Pyramid
7.) Dumb and Dumber to
8.) Theory of everything
9.) Gone Girl
10.) Birdman
So that's my prediction for the weekend box office, I am going to try to figure out what to do for a editorial tomorrow and I want to see a movie on Friday or Saturday, hopefully I will find a theater that is actually showing birdman or at the very least Foxcatcher because I really don't want to see The Pyramid because it looks bad and I am sick of found footage movies.

Weekend box office~ Katniss stays at # 1
Yeah kind of forgot to do this and skipped it to watch the Star Wars a phantom menace commentary by my favorite podcasters "Comic book cast" (cool guys check them out.) So the weekend box office came out and no much changed except for the addition of Penguins and horrible bosses. So here it is.
Weekend box office
1.) Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1~ $56 million
2.) Penguins of Madagascar- $25 million
3.) Big hero six- $18 million
4.) Interstellar- $ 15.7 million
5.) Horrible bosses- $15.4 million
6.) Dumb and Dumber to- $8 million
7.) Theory of everything- $5 million
8.) Gone Girl- $2 million
9.) Birdman- $1.8 million
10.) St. Vincent- $ 1.7 million
Glad to see Penguins of Madagascar is doing well along with Hunger Games Mockingjay, also really glad to see Birdman doing well both critically and box office wise (Michael Keaton for best actor Oscar!) Sorry Horrible Bosses but nobody really asked for you even though most people liked the first one.

Penguins of Madagascar review
Spoilers!Spoilers!Spoilers!
Before I talk about the movie let me just talk about this for a minute. The Star wars force awakens trailer is freaking awesome! I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan and by that I mean I don't worship at the alter of Star Wars, they didn't change how I looked at anything, heck I didn't even know they were that Iconic and that sacred until I was thirteen. I was more of Planet of the apes and Back to the future and Doctor who science fiction worshiper. I still liked the original trilogy and I even liked the prequel for entertainment reasons but I have to say the new trailer got me really excited and it looked really cool with my favorite parts being seeing John Boyega and Oscar Isaac (go see Attack the block and inside Lewlyn Davis) in seemingly lead roles and the effects for the millennium falcon flying which looked stunning. I am also glad this had no scenes with the old cast because my main fear was that it would be nothing but a Nostalgia fest with all the new ideas shoved into the corner. Yet this trailer gives me hope and really does excite me.
Now back to the movie.
Penguins of Madagascar is an animated spin-off about the penguins Skipper, Private, Rico, and Kowalski who must stop the evil octopus Dave from turning all of the worlds penguins into monsters and team up with the North Wind squad of the wolf leader C.L.A.S.S.I.F.I,E,D , a seal named Short Fuse, Kowalski's new crush an owl named Eva, and a penguin loving polar bear named Corporal. I love this movie.
First off the animation and voice acting is great. The animation is not as unique as Book of life but it lends itself to some really great facial expressions and lends itself to some really tight, really fast action you can see and is very creative and fun to watch. The voice acting in this movie is also really good, the voice actors especially from McGarth, Miller, Vernon and Knight, Malkovitch (who plays Dave and I did not recognize at all) and Cumberbatch (classified.) You can hear that all the actors are having fun. When they are called to be expressive and show emotion everyone delivers giving off some really good personalities to what would be some very stereotypical an d one-note characters.
The best part of the movie is for the most part the writing. Mainly the comedic writing, this movie is funny, entertaining and wonderful because of the way it's written. The jokes very much hit for the most part, with some very funny gags, jokes and cutaways. The movie overall is just crazy from the plot about turning the worlds penguins into hideous monsters just so no one will love them, to some other stuff in the movie such as how the penguins avoid dying from falling out of a jet and some other stuff I don't want to spoil makes it sound like the writers for this movie either each wrote a few pages then handed it off to the next guy to write a few more pages and pass it off until they got to the end or they did a bunch of drugs. In anyone else's hands this movie would have crashed and burned but with the direction and the pace of this movie it turned out to be great and so much fun.
The main bad part about this movie like the book of life (and really a couple of the dreamworks movies in general) is they try to shoe horn a message into this movie that makes no sense and kind of changes from scene to scene when really they would have been fine if they just made this a straight comedy. It doesn't bother me so much hear than in something like the book of life is one A.) Expectations- I had way higher expectation for Book of life than I did for this movie but mostly B.) The writers for the movie spread out the "message" throughout the movie where as The Book of Life shoes horns it so much into the last third it feels out of place and weird.
Still it is very jarring and very much unneeded when it gets brought up
I give this movie a 8/10- Despite the message it's one of the best comedies of the year in my opinion just from how insane and hilarious it is with great voice actors, great actions and fun characters as well.

Weekend box office prediction~Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! So tomorrow is thanksgiving (no editorial for Thursday because I have to go fill up for winter and will be at relatives houses as well as the fact I have no ideas for one) and the next day Horrible bosses two and Penguins of Madagascar (If I do see a movie I want to go see this one. Also this Friday the star wars force awakens trailer comes out in theaters and Itunes so that is something to be hyped about. Yet today I am going to talk about the box office. So here is my prediction.
Penguins of Madagascar
Weekend box office: $37-$42 million
Domestic box office: $ 60-$120 million
International box office: $120-$200 million
Worldwide box office: $180-$320 million
I loved the first and second Madagascar series (I hated the third one) and I really loved the Penguins of Madagascar cartoon show that used to air on Nickalodeon. I love Benedict Cumberbatch too so it I definitely want to see it.
Horrible Bosses 2
Weekend box office: $28-$33 million
Domestic box office: $77-$99 million
International box office:$53-$61 million
Worldwide box office: $130-$160 million
I and a lot of people liked the first horrible bosses movie and I thought it was pretty cool but Horrible Bosses didn't need a sequel and I am not excited for it in all honesty although I do like most of the cast.
Weekend box office
1.) Hunger Games
2.) Penguins of Madagascar
3.) Horrible Bosses 2
4.) Big Hero six
5.) Interstellar
6.) Gone Girl
7.) Dumb and Dumber to
8.) Beyond the lights
9.) St. Vincent
10.) Fury
So that's my prediction for the weekend box office and have a nice thanksgiving!

Weekend box office- Hunger Games is the big winner and the big loser
This weekend Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1 came out to a big win but not the one everyone wanted. I and most of Hollywood predicted $155 million while in actuality it made $123 million which is awesome especially considering it beats out Transformers for the biggest opening of the year. In my opinion it was probably due to the stigma of part 1 and 2 movies (I loved the movie and even I said in my review it could have been easily condensed), Jennifer Lawrence burn out and not the best word of mouth of all the franchise. Well here's the rest of the box office.
Weekend box office
1.) The Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1: $123 million
2.) Big hero six: $20 million
3.) Interstellar: $15 million
4.) Dumb and Dumber To: $14 million
5.) Gone Girl: $2.8 million
6.) Beyond the lights: $2.6 million
7.) St. Vincent: $2.2 million
8.) Fury: $1.9 million
9.) Birdman: $1.8 million
10.) Theory of everything: $1.5 million
So that's the weekend box office and I'm glad to see Gone Girl, Big hero six, and St. Vincent are doing so well since I love all those movies. I haven't seen Birdman yet but I am glad Michael Keaton has a mini hit on his hands.

Hunger Games MockingJay part 1 review
Spoilers!Spoilers!Spoilers!
Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1 is the fourth entry of the Hunger Games franchise. In this film our hero Katniss Everdeen has escaped the 75th Hunger Games and has been brought to district thirteen the home of the rebel force, despite having her district blown up (hey it's been a year fair game) and leaving behind Peeta Mellark Katniss must become a beacon of hope (through the use of Propaganda) of the other districts of Panem who must rise up and defeat the evil capital.
Before I get into the actual I have something to say and it doesn't lower my score for the actual movie it's just that the whole Part 1 and Part 2 aspect of a finale movie is getting ridicules. For something like Harry Potter and the deathly hallows and soon to be Avengers infinity war which are huge stories that would need two parts in order to properly tell the story and still have a good movie but when it comes to something like Twilight breaking dawn which could easily be cut down in a ninety minute to two hour movie and Hunger Games Mockingjay which is the shortest book in the Hunger Games franchise, I get money is money but still it's kind of annoying when you can literally figure out how to condense it into one movie. Yet that doesn't change the fact that Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 is a phenomenal movie and my favorite in the series so far.
What I like is that Mockingjay part 1 is a movie about the character of Katniss and why you care about her.
I do care if a female is a good role model but what I care more about is that she's still a character and not just a role model. Which is why I was never that impressed with the character of Katniss I felt she was more a role model than an actual person. Yet here where we get to see Katniss at her both most real and her most vulnerable you get a sense of who she is as a person and want her to succeed and live a happy life. This in my opinion is my favorite Jennifer Lawrence performance. I am half and half typically on Jennifer Lawrence: I really liked her as Mystique in X-men First class, thought she was bad in Days of future past, I liked her in Silver Linnings play book but thought she didn't deserve that Oscar, didn't like her in American hustle and thought she was OK at best in the last two hunger games. I think she is a good actress but I hardly get to see her range.
Yet here we see her go through so many emotions, with a level of realness and natural rawness that reminds you Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress. The movie is more of a character study than anything else. Some people will complain about the lack of action but that doesn't make it any less of a thrilling movie. There is so much suspense about character fates and with the plot that you really don't need so much action to get entertained. I also like that the movie is big enough to allow moments of calm and peace specifically when Katniss sings this (way too catchy song) and playing with the cat.
The movie is also a movie about propaganda which is really interesting and adds a new dimension we haven't seen and shows us how important it cane be. I also like whenever they do a propaganda video they show the chain reaction it causes in the other districts which I loved. This is also a pretty dark movie with some pretty dark imagery and scenes with you actually seeing people getting shot and dying. So be careful when taking little kids to see this.
The side characters, which have been my favorite part of these movies, get small roles but very key and good roles and all the actors do a very good job. Woody Harrelson is good as Haymitch like in the other films although his part has been downgraded he's still good along with the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutar Nash who is very good along with Julianne Moore as president Coin. Effie Trinket is my favorite in the series and Elizabeth Banks is awesome in the role and Effie adds a lot of levity and entertaining even though she's in a very sad place in her life right now. Willow Shields does is great as Prim and brings a lot of heart to the movie. Sam Clafin and Josh Hutchinson probably get the most downgraded roles but every time we see either of them they always makes an impact.
The action we do see (which is very few) is good as well as all of the practical effects.
Now no movie is perfect so is there anything wrong with the film? Well earlier I mentioned the practical effects were good the CGI effects... god they are bad. They do one of my new pet peeves in movies which are CGI animals, how hard is it to get a real deer and just let it roam around. I get it with fantasy animals like dragons but when it's a freaking deer the cheaper thing to do would be to get a real one. A lot of the CGI effects looked really noticeable and I don't know if the special effects artist were rushed or because most of the budget for effects went to part 2 but god it was bad. Especially when they showed sick Peeta which looked so noticeable it wasn't even funny, I mean how hard was it to put make up on Josh Hutchinson it would have made the progression look more natural.
The beginning of the movie is also very abrupt and it makes it seem like fifteen minutes was cut from the finale product and it threw me off the movie for fifteen minutes. It also ends abruptly and unlike Hunger Games Catching fire where it ends on a perfect moment it feels really sudden.
I give this movie a 9/10~ Bad CGI effects and abrupt beginning and end it's still a phenominal movie and makes you care about Katniss if you didn't before with an interesting plot and enough suspense to keep you going.

Box office prediction~ Jennifer Lawrence for the win
So the only movie of worth and the movie I am really excited for is Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1 (even though it's the shortest book in the series but that's neither here nor there.) I am excited for the movie but the marketing hasn't been a really memorable but just on the name Hunger Games and Jennifer Lawrence alone people will go flock to see this one. Here's my prediction
Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1 Box office prediction
Weekend box office box office: $145-$155 million
Domestic box office: $300-$410 million
International box office: $ 550-$600 million
World wide box office office: $850-$ 1,100 billion
Yeah expect Hunger Games Mockingjay to make every other movie this year look like it all flopped at the box office. Hunger Games catching fire was really good and with the demand for female lead movies this will make a lot of money. Especially the next one part 2 which spoiler alert! if it follows the book will have a big tear jerking what the hell you heart less directors moment.
Weekend box office
1.) Hunger Games
2.) Dumb and Dumber to
3.) Big Hero six
4.) Interstellar
5.) Gone Girl
6.) Beyond the lights
7.)St. Vincent
8.) Fury
9.) Ouiji
10.) Night crawler
That's my weekend box office prediction and if I'm not dead from a cold an editorial tomorrow and a movie review on Friday or Sunday (I have an eight hour debate tournament on Saturday.)

Weekend box office~ It just gets dumber from here
OK I am trying to get back to form and better so here it is the weekend box office. One movie came out wide release to any significance "Dumb and Dumber to" which opened overall good and to pretty mediocre reviews. Anyway Hunger Games next week should really whip up something big so lets see what happened THIS week.
Weekend box office
1.) Dumb and Dumber to~ $36 million
2.) Big hero six- $ 34 million
3.) Interstellar- $ 28 million
4.) Beyond the lights- $ 6 million
5.) Gone Girl- $4.5 million
6.) St. Vincent- $3.7 million
7.) Fury- $3.7 million
8.) Ouji- $2.9 million
9.) Night crawler- $2.9 million
10.) Birdman- $ 2.4 million
So that's the weekend box office for this week, I am glad to see Big Hero six and Gone Girl in the top five because I love both movies and same for St. Vincent in the top ten because it's a very good movie too. Next week Hunger games can't wait!

Netflix movie review~ Death of a superhero review
Yes I am back from the dead! I am still in school and one of my electives in school is debate in which I have to go to a lot of tournaments.Typically I still try to do these blog updates but because the lead up to this tournament has been awful and my brain has been frazzled I am just getting back to this today so sorry. Also yeah this is going to be a movie from Netflix movie review because being at a point in school where I still can't drive by myself I'm at the whim of my parents who invited both grandparents tonight (on Friday my dad wasn't home and Foxcatcher wasn't playing anywhere near by.)
The film death of a superhero stars Andy Serkis (Hail Caesar) and Thomas Brodie Sangster (Simon from Nanny McPhee or more recently one of the better characters and actors of Maze Runner Newt.) Thomas Brodie Sangster is a terminally ill cancer patient Donald Clarke who slowly is falling out of his messed up reality into his superhero imagination and is desperate to have sex once before he dies, worried his parents send him to Dr. Adrien King (Serkis) for help.
A couple months back I reviewed The fault in our stars and was for the most part very positive about it and said it was very genuine. After seeing this movie later and watching The fault in our stars again, TFIOS has kind of gone down in my opinion and seems a bit more cheesy. Death of a superhero is extremely genuine, extremely good, extremely heartfelt and extremely melancholy as well.
The premise seems like that cheesy hallmark movie type synopsis with the golden therapist bringing up the young mans spirit about an impossible situation. Well not really actually. While Dr. King does bring Donald some compassion and companionship this is Donald's story and ultimately he brings himself to accept what might occur. This is one of the most genuine stories about a cancer patient I've ever seen, it brings the anger, and pain that comes with the inevitability of death.
The characters of this movie are very good and they are all very relate able and very like able realistic people, they're people first above all else which is what characters should be. In this the star is Donald (Brodie-Sangster) and the person you like the most is Donald which is credited not only to the writer of this movie but of Brodie-Sangster's performance as Donald and the realism and insight he brings to what could have been a hit or miss Character. Serkis is really good in this and is actually in the movie very little but creates a strong impact. All the performances are very good especially in a film that is basically the slice of life of a cancer patient but at the same time still a good one.
Now this being titled death of a superhero there is actual animation in this film and it's actually really good and it brings the metaphor of Donald's life out and fleshes it out. With Donald feeling cancer is like being a superhero so he can't "get" with any girl.
The script of this movie is very good with very crisp and fast yet slow and relate able dialogue with just a plain good story and characters.
If there is one problem with this movie is that the ending is a bit cheesy and my problem with these kind of films is the end (literally and figuratively) and how it's portrayed. I'm not going to get into too much detail except that while I can get it's upsetting to show something like that but from the start the movie is willing to show some dark stuff and I wished they had gone big or gone home. Yet that's just me.
I once put this up as a netflix pic and called it one of my new favorite movies which it is, so go see it on Netflix.
I give this movie a 9/10~ eh ending but great movie overall.

Big Hero Six review
Spoilers!Spoilers!Spoilers!
Big Hero six is a loosely based comic book animated movie on an obscure marvel comic book (yes even more obscure than Guardians of the galaxy.) The film is takes place in San Fransokyo (if San Francisco was colonized or taken over by the Japanese) about Hiro Hamada (love the name) a fourteen year old genius with a interest in robotics, who uses his talents in robot fighting until one day his older brother Tadashi brings him to the university he goes to where he meets GoGo Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Baymax, a personal health android Tadashi created. He convinces Hiro to enroll in the school but sadly a tragedy at the university science fair occurs and Hiro is left in a depression and Baymax tries to cheer him up, then a villain named the Yokai. So now Hiro and his friends must become the Big Hero six to defeat them.
I love this movie so much.
First off on the technical stand point this movie is gorgeous with the use of colors and the anime Japanese influence this movie pops and dazzles, it is that beautiful. This movie also has the best action I've seen in any movie so far due to the characters powers and the fact you can see it all and the camera stays still it is eye-widening and just straight up cool. This is also a very creative movie with the concept of San Fransokyo and the characters powers it creates such a big world of science and colors.
Yet the best part is the story and the characters. First the side characters of GoGo, Honey, Wasabi, and Fred are a lot of fun and super likeable giving us a lot of great character moments that make you fall in love with them. Hiro's brother Tadashi is a lot of fun too, he edges on uncle Ben territory (more marauder than person) but we still get surprisingly a lot of time with him so we grow to like him a lot. The Villain of the movie Yokai is one of the coolest design and power set villains of this year although his story is a revenge story due to the themes of the movie it is used to great effect although it's one of those "who is it" villains and because their were really only two options which kind of undermines it although of the two I am glad they went with him rather than the alternative.
The main focus of this movie is Hiro and Baymax. I really like the character of Hiro because:
A.) He's not stupid
B.)He uses his head
C.) Goes through a good character arc
D.) Is serious and not goofy
These are all things I like in main characters and Hiro is easily on my top twenty (not quite top ten) favorite characters list. Yet the star is Baymax the loveable, huggable and dimensional android. I like that they don't make it where he develops feelings and "gains a soul" in this movie rather he just learns to process and understand humans. The one of the main thrust is the relationship between Baymax and Hiro which is very genuine and heartfelt. This is also one of the two movies (the other was The Help) where I cred due to a scene near the end with Baymax and Hiro.
My favorite part though is the story and themes of the movie. The main two themes of the movie is the cycle of revenge and letting go of the dead. These are themes we've seen in a bunch of other movies but it is done so well. If the villain in this movie did not try to seek revenge Hiro would not have gone after him for revenge for his brother (spoiler!), and creating one of the two darkest scenes I've ever seen in a kids movie where Hiro almost murders him with Baymax (and for a second I swear to god I thought that they were going to go through with it and kill the villain but thankfully Honey stopped Hiro.) And the only way the cycle of revenge stops his when Hiro let's go of his brother. This is one of the most well written movies of 2014 for me so far.
Now that I am done basically worshiping this movie what are it's flaws? Well for one thing along with the villain kind of being predictable this movie's pacing goes way too fast, by the time the movie ended I was like "that's it?" I know the whole kids with short attention spans thing but at the same time the movie would have been stronger with an extra half hour and if your quality is good enough kids will excuse an extra half hour to sit and enjoy. It irritated me so much because I loved this movie so much but hated the pacing of it.
Also because this is a Marvel property there is an after credits scene that is so cool and a Stan Lee cameo that is amazing!
I give this movie a 9/10~ Fix the pacing and villain of the movie this would be a perfect film

Editorial- Naruto
In 2007 I stayed up really late on Saturday night, while watching Cartoon Network it suddenly changed their was this ship, a space guy and something about something called Toonami. Then this show came on called Naruto and that's where it all began when I was eight. I know it's super inappropriate for an eight year old barely in second grade to be watching anime (especially the episode I caught was the first episode which had a lot of violence and the first use sexy jutsu.) As it just so happened their was a marathon from that episode to later learned final episode of the land of waves arc (Yeah I was basically up all night.)
In the end I fell in love with the series because of the world it created, the characters and the story. It inspired me to want to go in a field that involved story telling (either literature or movies) in order to do that because it was so amazing. Naruto made me the person I am today. So Naruto is very important to me and it feels really strange it has ended. It feels like I am officially out of childhood and getting more and more closer to adulthood.
Now my general thoughts is I love the series but that doesn't mean it's always been good, the first part of Naruto is legitimately good throughout the whole thing and is the perfect example of how you should progress a story from a simple one to a bigger world built emotionally deep story, was it perfect heck no it could be inappropriately silly and had not the best female characters but overall it was still good in story, character and emotional development.
Naruto shippuden overall it's hit or miss there are a lot of aspects I really love about it from how they made the new villains and how good the story arcs could get, how dark it could get and again the development of the characters both story wise and emotionally. The miss parts of it were that Sasuke became intolerable to read or watch about because even before or after he got his revenge he was still whiny, annoying and bitchy and it felt infuriating how Naruto and Sakura still wanted Sasuke to turn good because it was a thing of that you could tell he's too far gone. It could also get really convoluted at times and kind of stupid and explain things we didn't need to know.
The worst arc for either part one and shippuden has to be the fourth great war arc which started out great with all the shinobi coming together to fight Tobi, and the action and introductions to characters like Darui and expanding on other characters such as B and A. Yet after the reveal of Tobi it got really convoluted and stupid such as the connection of love and the sharingan, bringing back Orochimaru, the whole chakra-tree-of-Eden-first-shinobi bullshit. I hate when writers try to hide or out right lie about reveals to pull off "clever twists" but it's also infuriating to know the origins of things we didn't need to or want to know such as how Chakra was created.
I do still love the series despite how bad the Fourth shinobi war/final arc got (and at times it got really horrible) and I did like the epilogue which I found really heartwarming and a good send off.
I am writing this to sort of get my feelings out on Naruto and what effect it has on me because, because of Naruto I look at how to write characters and stories very differently and think about what you can really do with it even some of the most insane stuff can be great story telling devices. It's unfortunate how low of an opinion "the mainstream" typically has on anime and manga because it can be really great and while it has many flaws and got really bad near the end I could get really great and I still love it.
So that's my feelings on the end of Naruto and I'm really sad about it now. Also here's my customary list on some Naruto things.
Favorite male character: Kakashi Hatake and/or Gaara
Favorite female character: Hinata Hyuga
Least favorite male character: Sasuke Uchiha
Least favorite female character: Sakura Haruno
Favorite male villian: Haku
Favorite female villian: Konan
Least favorite male villian: Orochimaru
Least favorite female villian: Kaguya Otsutsuki
Favorite story arc: The chunin exams
Least favorite arc: Final arc
Favorite Jutsu: Any and all wood style Jutsu's
Least Favorite Jutsu: Rasengan (lost it's cool factor and it's power threat when it became used so much in Shippuden which was another flaw how often they used the same jutsu in Shippuden.)
So that's it see you later for big hero six review

Weekend box office prediction~ Battle of the fans
Two big movies are coming out this weekend Interstellar and Big Hero six (which I will be seeing and reviewing.) Both about science with one being a giant space opera while the other is an action-packed superhero robotics movie. So lets see how I think these movies might do?
Interstellar
Weekend box office: $70-$85 million
Domestic box office: $ 150-$250 million
International box office: $ 250-$ 550 million
World wide box office: $400- $ 800 million]
I am luke-warm on Christopher Nolan myself but he is a box office draw himself among both fans and critics and this has been anticipated for a while so you know their will be a turn out.
Big Hero six
Weekend box office: $50-$65 million
Domestic box office: $ 100-$200 million
International box office: $ 200-$250 million
World wide box office: $300-$450 million
While Big hero six is an unknown property their are a lot of elements helping this movie to succeed at the box office such as it's a family film, it's shorter than Interstellar, it's a marvel property, and the Disney marketing strategy while it probably won't top Interstellar it will have a crowd and the word of mouth has been excellent for this movie.
Weekend box office prediction
1.) Interstellar
2.) Big Hero six
3.) Ouiji
4.) Nightcrawler
5.) Fury
6.) Gone Girl
7.) Book of life
8.)John Wick
9.) St. Vincent
10.) The Judge
That's my weekend box office prediction and either tomorrow or Friday....whatever I think of.

Alexander and the terrible horrible no good very bad day review
Somewhat Spoilers
Alexander (no way am I typing out that full title throughout this review) is based on the thirty-two page children's book about a boy named Alexander who has a terrible, horrible no good very bad day. The book itself focuses solely on Alexander as he goes through his day where as the eighty-two minute movie focuses more on his family then it does on the title character himself.
Now I am not going to try and compare the book to the movie and before you say "It's a book adaptation they can change things as long as they keep to the core." Which I agree a book adaptation should not be ball-and-chained to the original source material if it would be better for the movie to diverge that's where I get to the good parts of the film.
First let's get to the bad. This is a very cheesy and kind of hooky film, many of the scenes are very cookie-cutter and very cringe-worthy, the most is when they repeat the mantra (terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day) which they did in the book but actually saying it out loud makes it seem very cringe-worthy. The movie is also rushed through completely as most of the problems are fixed by the time the second act happens so nothing really happens by the time the third act comes around.
Another bad part of the film is the character of Alexander our title character, now I don't blame the child actor (Ed Oxenbould) for this because he actually does a decent job with what he's given but the character of Alexander is so one-note and flat you can basically perform a tap-dance routine on him. The thing is Alexander not the main character of the movie the rest of his family is, the bad day the book is about is rushed through in the first five minutes and it's more about his family experiencing a bad day understanding what he goes through. Now I would be fine with this premise if the name of the film was Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good very bad day.
The rest of Alexander's family his brother Anthony, his sister Emily, and his mom and dad are also very one note and by the end of it kind of forgettable. Now that doesn't mean the performances are bad much of the acting in this movie is very good from his siblings and from Jennifer Garner and Steve Carrell as his parents who are both always fun.
On that note lets get to the good, I do think the film does or at least tries to capture the message of the book- everyone has a bad day. So you can tell the filmmakers had some passion for this story which is good for me. I don't think it does it well but it still does it and again the performance are good and overall the movie is genuinely funny with some actually very funny scenes.
They also do a new pet peeve of mine in comedy movies the CGI animals which always makes me cringe because I think it would be cheaper and cooler to get real animals instead of getting fake ones.
The movie as a whole wasn't as bad as I was expecting actually and did have a lot of redeeming qualities.
I give this movie a 6.5/10~ Cheesy, hook and flat with pet peeves but still good performances, tries with some passion and is genuinely funny.

Weekend box office~Jake Gyllenhall crawls his way to the top
I live in Florida so tomorrow is election day so that means no school! Hooray! I am plan to write the review for Alexander and the T.H.N.G.V.B.D tonight so watch out for that. So anyway this weekend the only movie of significance came out was Nightcrawler (one of my favorite x-men) and lets see how it did among the other sea of movies that aren't Oscar bait or anything really noteworthy and just filling up the rest of the weekend until then.
Weekend box office
1.) Ouji- $ 10.7 million
2.) Nightcrawler- $10.4 million
3.) Fury- $8.8 million
4.) Gone Girl- $8.4 million
5.) The book of life- $8.2 million
6.) John Wick- $7.9 million
7.) St. Vincent- $7.2 million
8.) Alexander and the T.H.N.G.V.B.D
9.) The Judge- $3 million
10.) Dracula untold- $2 million
From what I hear Nightcrawler is very good and it's sad to see it's not doing so hot but it's an independent movie with not a lot of marketing behind it. So hopefully it finds an audience. Alexander T.H.N.G.V.B.D movie review later but if not then expect it tomorrow since I have no school.

St. Vincent Review
I saw two movies this weekend St. Vincent (which I wanted to see) and Alexander and the terrible no good very bad day(which I didn't but I went for my mom and grandma.) I am going to review St. Vincent for the my main movie review and Alexander T.N.G.V.B.D tomorrow due to laziness, I saw St. Vincent first, and I have to prepare for school tomorrow.
St. Vincent stars the lovable as Bill Murray plays asshole Vincent Mckenna, a drunk smoker war veteran with a lot of issues. He spends his days gambling, drinking, sleeping with his lady of the night (watch the film to get that joke) and (possibly, maybe) the mother of his child Daka, and taking care of his Alzheimer stricken wife. He's also in debt and one of the ways he figures out how to make money is by baby sitting for his constantly working single mother divorcee Maggie Bronstein (Melissa McCarthy) her son Oliver (Jaeden Liebher.)
Probably the best part of this movie is the characters and the actors portraying them. Murray does a fantastic job and it reminds you why you like Bill Murray as an actor, I love the character of Vincent, the whole film is about how saints can be anyone even if they are SUPER flawed and Vincent perfectly emulates that. From the beginning of the film to the end of the film he is a flawed and kind of a dick human being but he has a lot of redeeming qualities and is just too likable. That was so refreshing to me that he doesn't due a complete one-eighty to a completely saintly guy by the end and while he is better he's still a bit of an ass.
The kid who plays Oliver is very good as well and the character of Oliver is very cool and while he does grate in some scenes he is overall a good three-dimensional character. Melissa McCarthy does a really good job as well and for once plays a very subtle character with a lot of dignity, the character really challenges her as an actress and proves she can do straight drama if she choose to. There's this one scene that got me really chocked up because it reminded me a lot of my mother and I won't spoil it for you. Naomi Watts plays Daka in this and while small does a very good job and is very entertaining and serves a pretty good purpose in the film.
Also a really great thing is that the film does have a bully subplot and while that is a horrible cliche typically they do it new and refreshing in here as the kid who is the bully actually has a reason and actually becomes Oliver's friend halfway into the film so there can be room for more story. When that happened I was like "Thank you movie for doing that new!"
If I did have to complain about this movie is that it does dive into some cheesy areas, and there's these two subplots with Maggie's ex-husband and Vincent and possible the Mafia (I don't know it wasn't clear) that didn't really need to be there or should have been really fleshed out more.
I give this movie a 8.5/10~Sometimes cheesy and a lot could have been cut but heart-warming, charming and full of great characters and performances.

Editorial~ Marvel Slate
Last Tuesday Marvel put me and the rest of the internet on an excitement high that still exists right now as I right on a late Saturday evening. I was suppose to write this on Thursday but I kept forgetting to do it. So basically I'm going to review the entire slate with my thoughts on each movie.
Captain America: Civil War
When this was first only pitched as a rumor I was not too thrilled because while I like Civil War in the comics I didn't think it would make a good movie. However after hearing people pitch ideas around and Kevin Feige saying they were going off the page for this I am really excited. I hope unlike Civil War they do go all grey instead of claiming to go grey and really do a mostly black and white story. This has so much potential to be great and it is super exciting that this is where we will finally met Black Panther/T'Challa.
Doctor Strange
Awesome I love Doctor Strange and pretty much anything with Magic. We knew this was going to get officially announced because they already announced a director and have been throwing around names for leads. What interests me is the fact they haven't announced Benedict Cumberbatch for Dr. Strange yet since a lot of sites have been saying it was almost complete deal for him. Feige said anything not announced was either "Not true or in the works" and considering they have to start filming in the spring it's probably a thing of the ink is not dry yet on the contract.
Guardians of the galaxy 2
Heck yeah! I loved the first Guardians of the galaxy and can't wait for the next one. Considering the first one made over $700 million dollars you know the next one is going to be huge and I love how the logo design reflected the tone of the movie (it looks like someone maybe Rocket took a paint can and sprayed over the logo.) Laid-back and doesn't give a shit.
Thor Ragnorak
Really excited for this one because while I really like both Thor films my main complaint is that except for the first one Thor is kind of a back seat character to Loki hopefully this will put Thor up front and center to show what he could really do. Also my prediction Thor "dies" and gets sent to Ragnorak and so has to fight his way through hell.Which will be as badass as all hell (no pun intended.)
Black Panther
Finally a black superhero with his own movie. Not the first black superhero because we have Iron Patriot/ War Machine and Falcon to thank for that. Black Panther is not only the first black superhero but he is also a really cool one because he is the KING OF HIS OWN COUNTRY you can generate so many movie ideas with that. Also the picture of his suit looks awesome as it's really comic accurate but still updated enough to look practical.
Captain Marvel
Awesome! I recently started to pick up the Captain Marvel (& Ms. Marvel) comics for Marvel now and it is really good. I can't wait for this movie to come out and it will be interesting to see what they do since they can do a lot of things with Carol Danvers but from the sounds of it they will be sending her up to space to do a cosmic story.
Inhumans
Introducing the replacement to the X-men because Fox would rather drink Anti-freeze than give up the X-men! Still really excited for the Inhumans, just started reading Inhumans Marvel Now and they are really cool especially Medusa she is so badass. Interesting this will probably the answer to Game of Thrones as well due to the whole political fantasy aspect to it.
Avengers infinity war part 1 & 2
This along with the Harry Potter deathly Hollows movie is the only time I will say the whole two part thing is necessary considering since this seems like a massive story that would need to be in two parts. Interesting even more their are two movies in between part one and two leading me to believe this will be contained as two separate movies with the same story line running though.
So that's the Marvel movie slate and yeah... by 2019 I'll be pretty broke but super happy at the same time. Hopefully see you tomorrow but no promises.

Weekend box office preditction
Hey guys I'm not doing so well so this will be a short little piece and sorry it's coming a day late, the editorial will be moved to tomorrow as well. This weekend I am seeing and reviewing St. Vincent because I really wanted to see that film and it's finally coming to a theater close by to me. A new movie coming out tomorrow is Nightcrawler which I don't know much about other than Jake Gyllenhal is in it and he kind of has a funny voice.
Still here's what I think
Nightcrawler
Weekend box office:$11-$20 million
Domestic box office: $40-$55 million
International box office: $55-$57 million
World wide box office: $95-$112 million
Box office
1.) Ouji
2.) Night Crawler
3.) John Wick
4.) Fury
5.)Gone Girl
6.) Book of life
7.) Alexander and The T.N.G.V.B.D
8.) St. Vincent
9.) The best of me
10.) Dracula untold
That's my weekend box office prediction and see you tomorrow either about Marvel or something else.

Weekend box office~ Keanu Reeves plays with a Ouji boards
The weekend has come and gone and now it is time for the weekend box office, I didn't go to the movies this week (but expect a movie review this week.) Ouji and John Wick (which I had no idea existed) and guess who came out on top (clue: Halloween is five days away.)
Weekend box office
1.) Ouija- $19.8 million
2.) John Wick- $14 million
3.) Fury- $13 million
4.) Gone Girl- $11 million
5.) The book of life- $10 million
6.) St. Vincent- $7.7 million
7.) Alexander (and the title I refuse to write)- $ 7.1 million
8.) The Best of me- $ 4.6 million
9.) Dracula untold- $4.3 million
10.) The Judge- $ 4.3 million
So that's the weekend box office and I'm surprised John Wick did as well as it did I know the word of mouth is really good but Keanu Reeves has been box office poison for years which is good for him because that means he still has his career for the next few years.

Editorial- Avengers age of ultron trailer breakdown
Yesterday thanks to Hydra (this is why we love you Marvel!) leaked the Avengers age of ultron trailer, so Marvel released it officially. And it was awesome, now I am here to do a (written) trailer breakdown for the movie since it's so big.
Avengers age of ultron trailer breakdown
0:01-0:10~ Opening of a city where a riot seems to be taking place, at first I thought it was south Africa because of all the filming that has been taking place there until it shows some rioters with a French flag so this either takes place in Paris or some sort of French colony. Also if you look closely two of the rioters are Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch (A.K.A Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.) Also we get opening narration from James Spader Ultron who after hearing his voice is freaking perfect for the role.
0:14~ A robotic hand covered in lava most likely Ultron either being created or upgraded.
0:17~ Our first glance of Captain America in his new suit which I have to say looks very cool, he seems to be walking through a field of destruction in either the place where the trailer opened or south Africa and he looks tired.
0:19~ Our first glance of Hawkeye who is standing in the middle of a panic and seems to have had something catch his attention during all of this.
0:20~ Our first glance of Thor from the back.
0:22-0:24~ A full shot of the team minus Tony Stark and from the looks of it their coming back from a mission gone wrong. All of them look either upset or tired and none of them are facing each other. The most damaged out of all of them looks to be Bruce Banner who is wrapped in a blanket looking as though he is really scared.
0:26-0:30- Our first glance a Ultron, who looks beat to hell. We got some news earlier this year that Ultron throughout the film will be changing forms and from the looks of it the report was correct as we see here he looks more in line from a iron man legion drone where as at the end he looks more like he does from the comics. My theory is that the Avengers build him to cover jobs they can't do and where at the beginning he starts out as a mindless drone but over time gains a sense of emotions and something happens where he snaps and decides enough is enough.
0:32- Notice in the group shot from the party scene their are two other women in the shot besides black widow, my guess is that it's agent Maria Hill and the asian scientist that was cast six months ago in the film.
0:41-0:45~ My guess this is the rumored beginning part with them breaking into a Hydra base due to the European-transylvanian style of the castle in front of the mountain range the same one Iron man seems to be standing in front of (most likely the swiss alps.) You can also tell it's the same facility Cap kicks the door down in due to how the windows look.
0:46-0:47~ The military either fighting Ultron drones or like we are going to see later because of how the city looks them shooting the Hulk.
0:49~ From the looks of the hut and clothing style of the black woman this seems to be taking place in South Africa where they have been filming (Wakanda?)
0:50-0:53~ Bruce Banner running through the snowy forest looking scared and confused. This most likely takes place in the beginning of film along with the Hydra break in.
0:54~ Quick shot of Black Widow, they say Black widow will be having a larger part in this than before and will be exploring her backstory more and from the looks of it she seems to be questioning her place as she joined still to stop guys like Hydra only to find out she's been working for them this whole time.
0:55~ A surgery seems to be taking place and my best guess is Iron man.
0:56-0:59~ Ultron in a seemingly different form with the twins (Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch), I have the feeling in the beginning they will be evil but join the Avengers at the end.
1:00-1:02- These shots seem to be taking place in the same scene with the Ultron drones coming out of the water and the Avengers looking really surprised and overwhelmed as we see Thor drop his hammer.
1:06-1:10~ Our only lines of dialogue in this film are pretty grim with Tony saying this is his fault and Black Widow stating nothing last forever. We also see Nick Fury and it will be interesting to see what role he plays in this film.
1:11-1:14~ Scarlet Witch screaming up into the high heavens, in the comics one of Scarlett Witch's abilities is to control reality, it probably won't be like House of M type of stuff where she creates an alternate timeline but still she's probably going to be pretty powerful. I bring this up because it seems like from how the scene is shot almost dream like and it doesn't seem real like she is trapped into a hallucination.
1:16~ First real shot of Hulk and I have to say the CGI in this trailer alone looks way better than Hulk in the first Avengers, in fact the entire film looks visually stunning from this trailer.
1:18~ The Hulkbuster armor looks awesome! Not going to say too much except already has talked about it.
1:22~ Black Widow on her new electric motorcycle which also looks cool
1:23-1:24~ A very small but very impressive look at Quicksilver's and Scarlett Witch's powers set, they look really cool and really colorful.
1:25~ This is interesting my train of thought is this is Cap under a hallucination by the Scarlett Witch in which Steve got his dance with Peggy because you can tell by the glimpse it is a dance hall of sorts but he is wearing his costume. Most likely to distract Cap to take him out of the fight while someone else (either Quicksilver or Vision, who we don't see) tries to kill him.
1:27~ Quick shot of Andy Serkis (favorite actor and cool to see him in live action) as most likely from the way his hair is style and overall look he is probably Uylsses Klaw a Black Panther villain: that is awesome if in the Black Panther movie Andy Serkis ends up being the villain that will be awesome for him. Uylsses Klaw is a physicist who specializes in sound, and since Black Panther is from Wakanda Klaw deals in vibranium the metal cap's shield is made out of and near the end it looks like they might need some soon.
1:30~ Rumors are circulating of Black Widow and Hulk romance in the film which I so hope happens. Mainly because when you think about it they would have a lot in common with both viewing themselves as monsters, both running from their past constantly and if you watch the first Avengers you kind of get a small vibe from them in certain scenes.
1:31~ A shot of a bunch of Ballerina's may not look like an important shot but if you know anything about Black Widow's origin and the fact this scene looks very dream/flashback like this will be very important.
1:32-1:33~ A bunch of what looks like Hydra agents shooting at Hawkeye (in a very nice looking new suit.) This is most likely in the beginning as well.
1:34-1:35~ Thor picks up Tony Stark looking ready to beat him up, something must have happened to make Thor this angry and from the looks of this movie their will be a lot of rifts between a lot of Avengers.
1:36-1:44~ Pre-order you Avengers fighting game now!
1:48-1:49~ That is already an iconic shot of Cap's shield broken symbolizing that the Avengers are freaking screwed.
1:50-1:53~ God what a way to end a trailer on (most likely) the final form of Ultron with James Spader menacingly saying "No strings on me" (awesome music choice by the way.)
And that's it, awesome trailer and I can't wait for May to come next year. Maybe a netflix review tomorrow but no movie theater review tomorrow, have a good day.

Weekend box office prediction~ Netflix and Avengers
The Avengers age of ultron trailer leaked so looks like I know what I'm doing for my editorial tomorrow (no it will not be in video format, my computer is too broken for that. This weekend I'm going to be doing a NETFLIX movie review of something I haven't seen yet because I can't go to the movies this weekend for personal reasons, money reasons and the fact only Ouija is coming out.
OUIJA
Weekend box office: $26 million
Domestic box office: $45-$50 million
International box office: $40-$45 million
World wide box office: $ 85-$95 million
OK the premise of the movie kind of makes me raise an eyebrow. Why? Why would you use a Ouija board to talk to your dead friend from beyond the grave? Why would you WANT to talk to your friend beyond the grave for that matter? I don't know, it looks really stupid and I'm glad I can't afford to go this weekend.
Weekend box office
1.)Fury
2.)Gone Girl
3.) Ouija
4.) Book of life
5.) Alexander and the terrible no good very bad day
6.) The Best of me
7.) Dracula untold
8.) The Judge
9.) Annabelle
10.) The Equalizer
So that's my weekend box office prediction and tomorrow... AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON trailer breakdown.

Weekend box office- I'm so sorry I'm late AGAIN
As the title suggest sorry I either forget or something comes up. Anyway Fury (which I wish I saw this instead of the disappointing Book of life movie) took the box office. Which is good for David Ayer is becoming more of a name coming from the indie background (and I'm super excited for Suicide Squad movie if he is doing it.) So here's the weekend box office.
Weekend box office
1.) Fury- $23 million
2.) Gone Girl- $17.5 million
3.) The book of life- $17 million
4.) Alexander and the terrible no good very bad day- $11 million
5.) The Best of me- $10 million
6.) Dracula untold- $9 million
7.) The Judge- $7.9 million
8.) Annabelle- $7.8 million
9.) The Equalizer- $5 million
10.) The Maze runner- $4 million
So that's the weekend box office and see you tomorrow, for the weekend box office prediction. So sorry again for forgetting again.

Book of life review
Spoilers!I can't properly review this movie without spoiling pretty much all of it.
The book of life is an animated movie about a wager between La Muerte the ruler of the remembered and Xibalba ruler of the forgotten (basically rulers of heaven and hell if you want to get down to it), on one day of the dead celebration they make a wager of who a young girl named Maria will chose to fall in love with and marry the insecure musical Manolo or the good intention if a little arrogant war hero Joaquin. La Muerte watches over Manolo where as Xibalba watches over Joaquin (including giving him a medallion that lets him never die or get hurt.) However Maria seems to be leaning more towards Manolo then Joaquin so Xibalba cheats and kills Manolo who know with the help of his dead relatives must reclaim his life in order to get back to the love of his life.
I was really looking forward to this movie when it was coming out.
First off let me get to the good. This is a really funny movie but what I love about it as opposed to a lot of other animated movies or live-action movies is that the comedy does not get into the way of or interrupt the emotional serious moments of the film and they don't feel jarring, they feel very genuine and it's never too much. My favorite character in this movie also has to be Joaquin while he is an ass unlike others movie where they make that the only character trait the rival has Joaquin is very three-dimensional as while he truly loves Maria he doesn't want to marry her if she doesn't love him back, he just wants her to be happy and the relationship with Manalo is very genuine and heartfelt and he doesn't hate Manalo and is there for him always as a friend should.
This is easily one of the most visually beautiful and unique movies I've ever seen. The vibrant color choice really pops and the puppet like design for the characters are really interesting. It's very fluid and smooth and is just so pretty to look at. In fact a lot of the face designs reminded me of one of my favorite shows as a kid El Tigre (look it up it's really good) and when I looked it up the man who directed this movie, Jorge Guetierrez, created the show El Tigre. You can also see that the same people who made El Tigre made this film because like this film El Tigre was about choosing your own destiny and the power of free choice. Sadly though while the film is fun and pretty I would rather watch El Tigre than watch this film anytime soon.
It seems that most of the bad films I watch nowadays seem to have really bad script problems. First off let me get to the other characters, where as Joaquin is a nice change of pace for rivals in other movies the other characters are very one-dimensional. Manalo are main character is very much like his puppet design, very wooden, there's not much their really except for a really good singing voice and I couldn't really root for him because he wasn't that interesting. Maria the love interest while a lot of fun doesn't really have a lot to her either as a character and is really just the feminist girl archetype. Manalo and Maria also don't have that much chemistry either, they do end up together in the film but you don't buy until the credits start rolling and the film is over. They don't even talk in the film to each other when they are adults, they sing with each other about how much they love each other but they don't have a real conversation to make you buy that they are in love with each other, rather just the concept of being in love.
In fact I thought she had more chemistry with Joaquin because at least they have a conversation with each other and he seems to love her for who she is as a person. Wouldn't have it been more interesting if while all that stuff about in the land of the dead with Manolo was happening Maria and Joaquin got to know each other better and eventually fell genuinely in love with each other. With the whole film about letting go of someone dead or alive and that you move on no matter what. That's kind of dark I know but it would have been interesting to see an animated movie tackle that.
Most of the other characters are one-dimensional, La Muerte and Xibalba are a lot of fun but we don't really know them and I wish we did because they seem really interesting with cool designs but they are kind of just there. Most of the voice acting is pretty good except for Ice Cube as the candle maker (basically god), he is so jarring in this film whenever he opened his mouth I wanted to groan and slit my throat. This film is very racially sensitive which is awesome and I like the mostly Hispanic cast which is even better but Ice Cube voicing a character with the candle makers design felt kind of uncomfortable. If you see the movie you'll know what I mean when he shows up.
Another problem with the movie it follows a pretty predictable story path when it has an interesting concept. Which is sad because you can pretty much guess the ending of this movie without even blinking. Nothing new happens, nothing interesting happens when you have a film about deities messing with human lives, that should be interesting. That's probably the worst part of the movie is a lot of potential is wasted, if they had hired different screenwriters this would probably have been good.
This film coming off of that point is very bloated, by that I mean this movie has four different GOOD movies in it that are all basically bull-fighting for attention creating this bloody mess that could have been avoided. I have a feeling the script for this movie was rewritten a lot because it feels like five different movies are happening at once. Their's of course the love triangle part of the movie but also a story about how Manolo wants to be a guitar player rather than a bull fighter (I can't spell the politically correct term for bull fighter), Manolo being afraid to be himself and a plot about Joaquin and an infamous bandit. All these plots could stand as a movie on it's own but put together they don't mesh that well because with how this movie is structure it's very jarring and unlike the animation doesn't flow well together.
The main theme these all share however is the idea of free choice as opposed to destiny. Yet I think it doesn't really work that well. What made the freedom versus destiny story work in El Tigre is the main character Manny Rivera (who is way more interesting that Manolo) always had free choice as an option, while he did have his dad and grandpa forcing him to choose it was always up to Manny to decide what to do, in this movie because you bring in gods into the movie one of whom has been manipulating one of the main characters free choice is kind of void. Not many of the characters have free choice really in this film either. Sure in the third act they say Manolo can make up his own destiny but it's so rushed through and never discussed. The pace in this movie is also a big problem which factors into the rushing of Manolo being able to make his own choice.
I give this film a 5/10- I can watch this film for entertainment and visual value but it's just so bad and so disappointing considering how hyped I was from this film.
